If I steal your car is that ok Julius? Do I have 9/10ths of the law on my side?
Wait! You have proof that you owned the car? Now you want it back? What if I scream that you were abusive of me in the past? Can I keep the car then?
Not a very logical argument is it? Stealing is stealing. Whether it is a car or a few hunks of pigeon stained rocks in the middle of the Sea of Japan (or East Sea if you are Korean). |

Well if you see it like that then we'd better give America back to the Red Indians and the Celts can reclaim England.
The way politics go nowadays- a population holding and residing in territory is regarded as the legitimate owners.
Of course though this is reversed when politicians can get away with it or it is expedient to do so. |

Of course in this case, Korea never had a population on Dokdo or even showed any signs of effective control let alone even knowing of their existance before Japan incorporated them in 1905. The Japanese were the first to build habitation on the islets in 1903 for the purpose of hunting sea lions.
It is my hope though that the whole case will be dealt with at the International Court of Justice. Whatever side they agree with is fine by me. If they think Korea has the stronger case then so be it. It is better to settle it once and for all instead of letting it fester. |
