So Sarah Silverman's act is to be a total b*tch??

Have a go, sure, but I think being funny would help someone who wants to be a standup comedienne.

Actually, Sarah's gig is to be a semi-retarded, fanatically self-absorbed bytche. I saw the first season of the Sarah Silverman Show...good stuff! But, if she's like that in real life, of course, she should probably be fed into the proverbial woodchipper.

Yeah, her standup is more of them same. Her concert movie was hilarious! Her TV show was picked up for a second season. Yay.

I actually think it is very tacky to laugh at other's expense - whether they deserve it or not.

Well maybe you're not a big comedy fan, because almost ALL laughing is at someone's expense, and if it's not your own then it's someone else's. And actually I would find it weirder for a comic to spend all night making jokes at their own expense.

As George Carlin once said "You can laugh at anything, it's all in how you tell the joke" ...

Here's my problem with that woman:

Why women aren't funny
(Vanity Fair)

Quote:
Be your gender what it may, you will certainly have heard the following from a female friend who is enumerating the charms of a new (male) squeeze: "He's really quite cute, and he's kind to my friends, and he knows all kinds of stuff, and he's so funny … " (If you yourself are a guy, and you know the man in question, you will often have said to yourself, "Funny? He wouldn't know a joke if it came served on a bed of lettuce with sauce barnaise.") However, there is something that you absolutely never hear from a male friend who is hymning his latest (female) love interest: "She's a real honey, has a life of her own … [interlude for attributes that are none of your business] … and, man, does she ever make 'em laugh."

There are more terrible female comedians than there are terrible male comedians, but there are some impressive ladies out there. Most of them, though, when you come to review the situation, are hefty or dykey or Jewish, or some combo of the three.

I have to agree with that colossal comic genius, arbiter of good taste, and dangerous progressive, Jerry Lewis, when he says female comics aren't funny, often make him uncomfortable, and there aren't any working today who are any good. (the few he likes are all retired or dead)

With many comediennes, their fan base tends to share their politics or stance on minority issues, or, or, or... And that's usually liberal-lifestyle, Christian-bashing, immigrant-hugging, fist-shaking, Man-/Whitey-/Establishment-hating left-winger iconoclast types.

I thought the woman in the OP's clip was strictly "Open-Mic Amateur Nite" at the student commons. Would love to've seen a big fat famously-conservative white man up on that stage cracking those kinds of raunchy jokes ... Good Lord, what a backlash there'd be from many of the same little sh1ts now gushing 'Go girl! You rock! Wink '

I always like Victoria Wood even if she did Dinnerladies or whatever that was called. I think the hefty, gay or jewish thing could be applied to male comics also, albeit not to the same degree.

She did. fart and poop jokes would get laughs too. The level of humor there was about that high.
