There is no such thing. Japanese keyboards are the same as the one you have at the moment and the Japanese language support for windows will allow you to type in hiragana, katakana and kanji.

Just type your words in Romanji (alphabticised Japanese) and it will write the Japanese version.

Windows language support may not be enough. This just enables you to read Japanese on your computer instead of gibberish. You are going to need to tinker with the Global Language Input Editor. Here is how to do it (on Windows XP; sorry I have no idea for Vista):

Go to "Control Panel" on your Windows Start up Menu

Click on "Regional and Language Options"

Click on the "Languages" tab.

Click on the "Details button" and click on "Japanese" if it is there. If not, check the "Install East Asian Languages" box. Hit Apply and then Add Japanese keyboard option.

There should be an EN icon on the bottom of your screen. If you click on it, it should toggle between English and Japanese (click on JP and there should be a Japanese Flag and a letter 'A' Click on the 'A' to toggle between languages).

Next is to install your keyboard. This can be solved by just taping the characters to your keyboard. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:KB_Japanese.svg

I hope this works. PM me if there's a problem. Good luck.

I have to disagree - OF COURSE - Japan has their own keyboards - with both Japanese language as well as English - (the same as Korean keyboards have korean language as well as English) - here is a pic...

I have used many of them on visa-runs to Japan - maybe shop around at techno-mart or find someone going on a visa run to Japan to bring one back for you....

Japanese keyboards have a number of extra keys as far as I can remember. And switching between the four languages it supports was a pain in the ass.

this worked like a charm. thanks very much. the romaji just switches to hiragana and then i have options to switch to katakana or kanji. incredibly simple. awesome.
