Jihadists pose as Americans online
June 7: A new online propaganda effort by jihadists focuses on stirring anti-war sentiment among Americans. NBC's Lisa Myers reports.
Anti war movement the Jihadists are thankful for all your support. |

Find the bit where it says that the US presence in Iraq is welcomed by the jihadists as it gives them a chance to face the enemy. Then tell us how this fits into your thesis. |

How do we know you're not the resident jihadist who has started this thread in order to distract us? One that wants to bleed the US dry with endless wars and excessive military spending? |

You have a good point then again I am sure they can use it for their advantage.
Then again 70,000 trained in Al Qaeda camps in the 1990s.
Remember it was this bad before the US invaded Iraq.

Al-Qaeda camps 'trained 70,000'
Thousands are said to have joined al-Qaeda camps in Afghanistan
Some 70,000 people received weapons training and religious instruction in al-Qaeda camps, German police say.
The claim came at the retrial of Mounir al-Motassadek, a Moroccan man accused of involvement in the 9/11 attacks, which were partly planned in Germany.
A German police officer told the court recruits at the camps were taught they had a duty to kill US citizens |

IF the US applies enough force to the middle east then mideast regimes will feel threatened . If middle eastern regimes fell threatened enough they they will lop off the heads, or cut the throats of those who support Al Qaeda.
If you think that is a crazy idea , then listen to this: mideast regimes actually know (unlike the US) where Al Qaeda is and who their supporters really are.
Going after Al Qaeda is a war on muslims the same way that going after the Klan was a war on christians. ( It isn't )

take it up with MSNBC.
Besides the US only spends about 4-5% of US GDP on the military that is less than during most of the cold war. |

Why? Why not also go online pretending to be mindless hawks calling for genocide? Thereby inculcating in "Oh, anyone who supports the war is very scary!" I mean you can spin this any way. It's seems to me it's nearly pointless information. |

I would tend to concur with MMT's analysis. Doing unflattering impersonations of their opponents is the stock-and-trade of many internet fifth columnists.
And in any case: By now, the Iraq war is so discredited across the political spectrum, and in the most respectable of intellectual quarters, that the contribution of internet trolls to anti-war sentiment is negligible. It would be like economics PhDs impersonating "average Joe citizens with no axe to grind" in order to argue that North Korea's economic policies have failed. There'd be no point to that, because everyone already agrees that North Korea is a mess. |

Nevertheless it is telling that the Jihadis seem to see the anti war movement as something they can use.
the war on terror isn't discredited.
and if the Bathists , the Khomenists and the Al Qaedists don't give up their war then it is likely that the US public will support the US invading and bombing another place |

What would it change either way? There are already both real Americans arguing against the war and real Americans arguing for the war in ways shocking to the left and moderates. The whole report has the news value of a report that some men pretend to be 16 year old cheerleaders online to besmirch the reputation of cheerleaders.

So what? The vietnamese I'm sure found the anti-war movement useful to their cause. And it ultimately was. Should America still be there today fighting? Was the anti-war movement right or wrong then? The point of that war was? |

Depends on which people you are talking about. Some are against the war but more or less sympathetic to the US.
There are others who would rather see Bush in Jail than Bin Laden and the supereme leader in Iraq. There is a large segment of the anti war movement that would like to see the US lose in Iraq and Afghanistan cause they would like to see US policy changes.

Was the anti war movement correct in Vietnam yes and no. Many of them were wrong about the cold war . They were also wrong to leave out the crimes of N Vietnam.
The same people who would have argued against N Vietnam would have argued against Korea. |
