I read that China does not recognize the international
driver's permit. Can I rent a car in china? Do I have
to get a license. I only get 7 days of vacation. |

Yes, the Chinese do not recognize the permit.
Yes, you cannot rent a car in China.
The Chinese are not going to give a "license" to a tourist.
Fly or use the Train. |

I would seriously not drive in China, even if you could have a license.
Why?
As my chinese friend said to me on more than one occasion - these rental places (including Hertz and Avis) are run by gangsters and you end up getting seriously cheated by the end of your rental period.
Don't do it, man. |

You need to know someone that will rent you a car.
When I lived in China I rented a car a couple of times. If the police pulls you over, all you have to do is act dumb and stuiped and they will let you go.
Driving is China to me is safer than driving in Korea. |
