"Korea's education environment for foreign residents is seriously weak
compared to those of its investment competitors, making it urgent for the
nation to improve the system,a recent report showed. The Korea Trade-
Investment Promotion Agency pointed out in a study that although Korean
foreign schools have many problems including small space and aged
facilities, the government does not have a support program.By contrast,
investment competitors like Taiwan and Hong Kong are currently offering
land for foreign schools free of charge, while China is backing international
schools by working with foreign education institutes,it said. The agency
also noted that tuition is too high in Korea,as the average fee per student
is $17,500,which is 150 percent more than the nation's per-capita gross
domestic product
volume.Korea's GDP versus tuition ratio is the second
highest after China. To improve Korea's competitiveness in education,
there should also be greater fr!eedom for the establishment of international schools and allowing cash-gifts,the report also stressed."

High tuition fees are one thing. The inability of koreans to make the most of their education is another. They think that by paying money, you'll learn. I've known a rare few who are fluent in english and totally self taught. Most attend schools and private tuition, pay shedloads of cash but learn zip. Tha attitude to learning has to change. teachers are enablers, not hypnotists who can force people to absorb information against their will.
