Didn't see it mentioned this page but there's a new taco place in Hongdae although not true Mexican food. It's more California neuvo cuisine but since I lived in California it's a-ok by me. They put things like red onion and lots of leafy greens, not just lettuce, in their food. I had one fajita and one taco. They were basically the same thing but the fajita had grilled bell peppers. The beef is the same price as the other meat. They also have vegetarian options on a lot of things. Menu surprised me with how big it was but I only tried the two things listed above.
It's on the way from Hongdae Station to the park. On the main road you cross over, it's on the second floor of that building on the left, the one with Better Than Beer in one corner. |

I can't believe some of the comments. None of the Mexican food I have had in Korea comes close to the taste, authenticity or quality that I have had in Mexico or in California; especially the taste of my family's cooking. And how the hell is 10,000 won for two f**king tacos and a drink a god deal?
Good news to all of you who really want good Mexican food. I am seriously researching how I can open a Mexican restaurant in Korea. I have people in Mexico who can ship over REAL ingredients and I am starting an herb garden, the most important herb being cilantro!
I am amazed how everybody in Korea missed the mark. I hope I can keep my process down and not have to charge outrageous prices just because it's not Korean food.
If anyone is interested in investing PM me. |

Good on you and all, I would love something authentic. But keep in mind that the taste of cilantro depends on your genetics. Some people get a fresh taste from it and some people find it soapy. Maybe I'm making this up, but I thought I heard that Asia has a higher percentage of people with the "soapy" gene. I guess that would exclude Southeast Asia.
Best source I could find off-hand:

I think the people who praise Mexican food have two things going on: 1) they are from places where Mexican food differs from the taste in California where I'm from (Tex-mex just doesn't cut it from me) or 2) as in my case, it's good "by Korean standards."
Even when I cook things at home, things come out much better than the restaurants, but missing certain herbs and spices for marinades, low quality/incorrect cuts of meat (haven't found good skirt steak here for carne asada)lack of fresh tortillas (is your restaurant going to hand-make those as well?), and COST of key ingredients (again, this isn't cali or baja, avocados are really pricy here) all limit, I think, the potential of any Mexican restaurant here. Or you'll get something authentic and high quality, but 4 or 5 times the price of back home. |

Just ate at the Mexican food place in Haeundae, Busan... and he knows what he's doing! The owner is a thirtyish Korean guy who spent a year in California with his aunt and her Mexican husband, and he took good notes!
The real kind of tacos with soft tortilla, quesadillas like back home, burritos (I had one of each, chicken ques, beef bur). Real nice fixings, cilantro too.
A very small place with authentic Mexican food at a very small price (everything under 5000 won I believe).
The place was "Taco Chili Chili" when it opened in June but it turns out that name was taken so he had to change it, it's now "Taco al Puebla".
It's located near the Megabox. Go out the rightside of the sFunz ("sponge") shopping mall entrance, at the 7-Eleven side, and head toward the beach. You'll see KT Plaza on your immediate right and two blocks further a "Beauty Zone" on your right. Stop at the "Beauty Zone" and go down the alley/narrow retail walkway on your left there. Can't miss it!
I really hope his place succeeds. He was a baker for ten years and plans to make his own tortilla when he moves to a bigger place; he's determined not to fold like two other Mexican joints in Busan that lasted six and eight months respectively. |
well, I was there again yesterday, and he's made it past the one-year mark
quality stuff
when you're in the neighbourhood, go! ... I need him to last another year |

Don't know if it's been said, but there's now a Taco Chili Chili branch located in Daechidong, near Hanti Station. I don't remember the exact exit number, but it's on the main road and slightly east of the Lotte Department store. |

So which of these is the best Mexican joint in Seoul? Any of these places serve up a good carne asada taco/ burrito? I miss me some Chitpole burritos with corn salsa. Puts both Baja Fresh and La Salsa to damn shame.
Casa Maya (Apgujeong)
Casa Loca (Apgujeong)
Dos Tacos (Gangnam)
Taco Amigo (Itaewon)

carne asada isn't served anywhere here from what i've found.
if you like chipotle, that means you liked burritos filled with 3/4 rice. you will like the mexican food here a lot more than i do. |

The best place I've been to since comming here was on that main road really near to Noksapyeong station. Really friendly atmosphere though smallish. Im sorry forget the name of the place. I go to "The Church In Seoul" english speaking service and one of the christians took me to eat there as a treat. It really was nice fresh well made food, a nice treat.
On a second note, if you are in the area around Itaewon and want to hang out with some christians in that area. I can well recommend the church there also. Its on that road between Itaewon station and Noksapyeong station across the road from the Mc Donnalds. I have posted a map on my web page www.livinggod.info .
Enjoying the real life,

There is also a Casa Maya in Hongdae. Pricey as hell, but some of the best Mexican I've had since I've been here. An On the Border Mexican cafe supposedly opened in Sinchon on October 18th. I have plans to go there with a group soon. |

Casa Maya is in Apgujeong AGAIN? I remember 2 years ago that they closed from there and opened up in Hongdae. You sure about a new Apgujeong location? |
