I've noticed from the past that many Korean teachers show movies like Harry Potter rather than teach their classes after exams. |

As long as they have a task or a lesson based around the exam I see no problem with it. |

Yes, it's very strange. I don't know why they don't put the exams at the end of the semester rather than three weeks before the end.

They usually don't. They're just killing time. The students consider the year to be over after exams. If you try to teach they won't listen so everyone just puts on a D.V.D. |

Which is a shame. Some teachers at my school do still try to teach after the exams. But the kids end up getting beaten more than actually learning anything.

I was told by my CT it's to give teachers time to process the grades and take care of any paperwork so that it doesn't cut into their vacation time. |

Yeah, that's why. Sometimes the teachers don't bother going to class at all and just let the kids run around their class haywire for the day. |

I'm sure you could walk into the class not teach and do some bizarre Performance art and no one would notice. |

I just show DVDs. If I'm not teaching it's common for other teachers to want to borrow my portable DVD player.
Some teachers do reviews of their exams, but many just leave their classes unsupervised to much around. |

In my last (middle school) job, I was encouraged to show movies for the week after exams. The teachers told me that the students would not want to study, so I did. However, after watching the first 45 minutes of 'The Ant Bully' 14 times, I was seriously bored! |

Last time after exams, before the winter break, my kids were literal animals...I tried to teach, but they were non responsive (more than usual)...I work at a rural public school...and the korean teachers were just letting them watch movies unsupervised the majority of the time!
So this time, as it is nearing the end of my contract, I have allowed my kids to see a movie or some Mr. Bean clips next week. For the rest of this week, Thursday and Friday, its business as usual.
I am really tired of fighting upstream with these kids...This year has been a particularly bad year for grade 1's. |

It's so that grades and report cards can be processed. However, it's not logical to have the students coming in.
It should be like this: Finish exams. Teacher's have 4 days to process grades, do marking etc. without students at school. On the Friday, students come in for the morning to receive grades and be dismissed for summer vacation.
Anyways, I'm going to show Mr. Bean
I'll have questions about it and offer prizes to students. Simple and fun. |

I'll only have two weeks of classes after the exams. So, I will do something semi-educational the first week. Probably, show them some clips and they can answer multiple choice questions and then in the scond week I will just let them watch a movie.

Haha, me too. I prepared a 'fun' lesson, and went to class, and it was like I wasn't even there. After 5 minutes, I popped a movie in and went back to the teacher's room and told the co-teacher the students are off the wall. She just laughed and told me to let them go.
Whatever..when in Rome... |
