The owner of Club Psycho asked me to make a post here to the good folks of Dave's ESL Cafe.

Yu Jung (the owner) did indeed work at the Club Psycho in Kumi for over 3 years and she's patterned her place after the one in Kumi. That's good news for all of the foreigners in the area because Club Psycho was made with foreigners in mind. It's a Westerner's bar for Westerners, not a Korean bar where the owner is only nice to the foreigners just so he/she can be a novelty in the area for other Koreans. Previously only Itaewon, Kumi, Daegu, Ulsan and Pusan had a place like this (not counting the US Army bars outside of the bases). Those of you who have been here a long time know what I'm talking about.

The music is a good mix of pop, dance and rock but they'll play just about any type of music the customer wants. Bring in some of your favorite MP3's and they'll load them on the pc. She might be looking for a foreigner to help her out playing music on the weekends when it gets busy. You'll have to inquire with her.

She also says she will start doing a happy hour early with 2 for 1 drinks from 8-10 PM. I believe its for mixed drinks only and not beer but 2 Jack/Cokes for the price of one can't be beat anywhere in Anyang.

She's also working on some other fun things for the place and might even have some theme parties coming up. She's still working out the details and doing her best to make you guys a fantastic bar. Keep in mind she just opened, is only like 24 years old and hasn't even found a full-time bartender yet so please cut her a little slack. Smile

The Club Psycho in Kumi is still arguably the best ex-pat bar in Korea outside of Seoul and she worked there for 3 years so I'm sure she'll have the new Psycho kicking ass in no time. I'll be in there tomorrow night from Daegu (Sunday, June 17) to help her install a new DJ music program on the computer. If anyone wants to drop by, the first pitcher is on me. Cheers everyone!

We hit this place up over the weekend, nothing special really. Irish Dreams is WAY better.

How come you are so quick to state that this bar is the best thing in town and yet you are not even from this town???? You may know Gumi, You may know Daegu but that doesn't mean you know Anyang. As for this bar being the only thing in town, you have no idea. There are 100's of bars just like this throughout the region.

I was in there the other night. A few of my friends went in there looking for cigarrettes.

It seems pretty decent, but I can't see more than 50 people in there... am I even thinking about the right place? Canadian flag on the way in and kind of dark/neon inside?

There were no foreigners there when I was there... and maybe only about five Koreans. The bartender was sweet though, she gave us cigarettes Razz

I ended up at MC Hip Hop that night (haha), maybe I'll try Psycho when I go clubbing in Anyang again to see if more people will be there.

I haven't been to Irish Dreams but I'll definitely check it out this week. I don't currently live in Anyang but I've been in Korea for over 12 years and I've been just about everywhere over the years including Anyang and other places in that area. During the four years I lived in Seoul, I saw more places than I missed between Seoul and Songtan.

I"m not saying Psycho is the best thing there. Psycho can't compete with the larger discos or bars that have spent millions of won on their interior and sound systems. My point was that Psycho was built with foreigners in mind as the target audience. No other bar in that area can make that claim despite the fact that some foreigners might hangout in those places.

Do you have any idea how rare it is in this country (or any other for that matter) for one of the locals to make a bar for the foreign community? That fact alone earns them big bonus points in my book. I'll still visit other places too for the variety (and I will visit Irish Dreams) but I'll also do my best to support the one bar owner who took a chance on doing something different for us. Cheers.

I like Irish Dream, when I want to relax with friends, but I definately prefer the party scene at Pshycho.

Irish Dream has a more classy and snobby feel, while Psycho you go to get thrashed and have fun. They boh have their place and I will keep on goin to both.

Plus the owner at Psycho is super sexy and tons of fun.

Selly at Irish Dream is great too, but I prefer the new club.

yeah, went to bar psycho last night...what happend to the free pitcher,eh???

(KIMCHEEPIZZA, not there doing the sound install... he was the new owners ex-manger, i was told,...so all the self promotion is clear now!)

anyway, was very empty, shame, but should have our custom..

good choice of import beer, free pool table, cheap(happpy hour lasts till ten pm)very cool friendly staff etc

tho it was empty i had a great time, we even played pool with the owner, enjoyed happy hour half price sapporo beer... so not a wasted journey.i live in anyang anyway at the moment,so very happy its opened!

appently bar is jumping fri /sat...it was a sunday night when i visited.
mm..was shown some video shot earlier this weekend to support this statement...

the interior could do with some re design, all basic black paint,faux/staged chalk graffiti ,the usual bar/club decor...

will be going back..she deserves support... really
we all know how quickly these ventures can evaporate in korea without steady custom.

trashing the jet.x

Give some directions on how to get there. Might be worth the time to check it out. Last foreign bar I went to in anyang was Rocksins, and it became a korean club.

i went to check out club psycho last night with a few friends, and yeah it was dead. we were the only people there. but, it was wednesday night, so i didn't exactly expect the place to be jumping.
yep, the owner's a super cool chick, very friendly, chatty, hot, and keen to make this place work. she's also a pool shark.
i am definitely gonna be back there, it's in my hood, and i have been trying to find a place where i can drink cheap booze, play pool, and listen to motorhead.

On the plus side, when there's no one else in the bar you get total control of the music selection!

Ah, the old hot-korean-girl-owner/bartender+lonely-foreigner-guy-clientele business model. Do they teach this in business school here or something?

And why did it have to come to Anyang only after I left, huh? Not cool.

Hmmm - with C leaving out for the USA for a month on Sunday, we decided to go out on Fri instead of Sat. Maybe we'll start there for part of happy hour & some pool before heading into town -

And if she actually is hot, see just how well she holds up with C hitting on her . . . Twisted Evil

We'll report back later.

btw, it is a little silly to argue about 'best' bar, as lots of people look for lots of different things in bars.

Regards,

Glen & Christina
