I'm watching the UK version of the office, and in one episode a guy uses the term "sloppy seconds". I found it strange because there are so many UK slang terms I've never heard of, and likewise for UKers hearing American stuff. So I have to wonder, why is it that both countries can agree on the term "sloppy seconds" but we can't agree on how to spell color?

the reason that american spelling is all fucked up is because someone (it may have been thomas jefferson but i doubty that i just remember that from a drunk conversation) tried to make english phonetic because from the start the country was a mix from all over the world but they chose english as their first language (thank christ lol)
