You're missing the point here. No Korean recruiter (or employer) is going to even look at your resume - unless you have a photo that shows you are (or can be) a TEACHER.

Asians have a very narrow view of who is a 'teacher'. That is why they invariably hire English teachers on their photo - not their resumes. Your degree is just to pass immigration requirements. The school is not interested in your degree. But they are VERY INTERESTED in your photo and accent. Many Asian employers use 'Face Reading Specialists' to check your 'character' (hogwash for us - but they believe in it).

You need to replace your photo. Many Korean/Asian employers will not be impressed by your hair - you are not wearing at tie - your posture says (barman at function) i.e., not a professional 'teacher'. Get a good head/shoulders photo in a suit and tie (your bright shirt is very good) and smile - and this sounds crazy - but 'smiling with your eyes' is considered very good here (whatever that means).

With a good photo it will take you about 5 days to get a job. Go for it.

As for the picture, wear a tie and crop the shot from your chest area. I agree that a haircut wouldn't be a bad idea, but it's your head.

get a suit that fits.

Get a hair cut.

You are not applying for some redneck wrestling federation.

Don't take photos of your dirty floor and crapy plant.

Make your resume on page of bullet points if you have no experience. No need to pad it out with waffle.

I think they are mokaskins or whatever they are called. Don't generally need polishing but they aren't really shoes you would want to show to a prospective employer.

They are a bit lizard loungish.

For your photo, a head and shoulders shot would be much better.
A tidy appearance is really important.
For your picture, I suggest you wear a tie and either tie back your hair, gell it down or get a trim.

Your photos are absolutely horrible.

Face reading is NOT an invalid form of personality detection.

Studies have found that Face Readers that do it for a living can successfully pick out a person's temperament type and often their personality type from photographs a person submits of themselves.

Consider the fact that you have a stupid grin on your face, you have hippy weird hair, and there is a kind of dennis the menace look to your expression. Anyone would interpret you as a child-hearted person -- probably of an Artistic temperment with a personality type that likely seeks fun and pleasure far out of proportion to business or reason, you probably are NOT a very traditional values minded person, and you likely are no idealist, even if you trick yourself into thinking you are sometimes.

All this could be really good or could be incredibly awful and be a BIG mess for some school to have to deal with.

If i were you, i would completely LIE about who i am, because not only is someone who looks Childish not worthy of being called teacher in the eyes of many people, but look to be the sort who who isn't a professional of any sort and probably couldn't comprehend what that even means.

I haven't even read your resume! So ill see if im right or wrong, i guess.

That being said, take a lesson from our Ambassador, Chris Hill:

He has a boyish smile, and a young at heart appearance -- and so he wraps himself in the flag and a nice suit, with a plain and boring background. This negates his child-like appearance, and lends his photo a sense of professional balance with innate flexibility.

You might also want to look at the photo of a real Korean professional:

http://www.hanyang.ac.kr/image/photo/staff/A001851.gif

He seems hirable.

You don't.

Just based on the bias of appearances, i'd even wager that he spoke English more properly than you. Based on your photos, i would guess that your speech is endlessly laden with completely useless youth slang.

Mind you now, that i'm not judging you as a person -- only your photo.

More personally, you appear rather as a hobbit. lol. But that's more the fault of broad body proportions, EXTREMELY wide gay hair, and a downward photograph angle. You seriously look like a midget.

I would suggest BUTTONING up your jacket so it clinches to you tightly -- employing a a SKINNY tie to add length to your appearance, and to take your next photo from an ever-so-slightly upward angle (instead of downward as in your second short). This will give the illusion that someone is looking UP to you, instead of down at a stubby little hobbitty midget.

I'm willing to bet your next photo will make you look amazing if you keep these things in mind! Good luck!

^That's the biggest load of hit I've ever read on this site.

If we applied that same babbling nonsensical logic to your choice of avatar then I think we could safely say that you obviously have an obsession with phallic objects, which probably comes from having have a very small peni5.

Whooooa! Some quite cutting criticism there, i will take another photo of just my chest and head. My hair isn't actually long enough to tie back, but i will wet it as someone else suggested and comb it so it is closer to my head, and less wild.

HP - some of what you say is right, but essentially it is just a cold read, you could say that stuff to someone without seeing a picture and they would agree with some of it. Also judging just by someones hair isn't accurate. For years i had short cropped hair, and a year ago it was shaven, this is the only time my hair has ever been long, and i don't think growing my hair has instantly turned me into a childish hippie hobbit Smile

However, i do realise that it is an extremely different hiring process to the UK/USA, essentially it is racist, and relies heavily on looks, so i will re-take my picture to try and get it to look more professional.

Oh and p.s.

I really appreciate the constructive criticism i have been given here, however this statement is totally innaccurate, and totally uncalled for, and im not going to respond other than to say whoever has upset you today it isn't my fault, keep your negativity and bitterness to yourself please.

Smooth comeback, Dan. I'm on the verge of sending off my first cv and covering letter so this thread has been useful. Good luck with the job hunting.

Well as someone who has recruited some teachers for the city I live in and have been here going on 7 years. Your resume should be short and simple. I hate mile long C.V.'s that include every job since a person was 12. Food service or hospitality industry is a good substitute for bartender experience. Frequently they barely scan the resumes but a word like bartender will stick out.

Your hair is fine just comb it and make it look a bit less unkempt. You have a nice look about you and you need to go and get the ol' chest to head shot. Think passport photo. You have nice amiable look. Really small changes could make a huge difference.

Don't worry the best teacher I ever worked with was very child like and had hair down past his shoulders. He was the best kindy teacher I have ever run across. He normally kept his hair in a pony tail but you can have long hair and look nice and get hired.

I wish the best of luck in your job hunt. Remember ask lots of questions about pay, housing and hours you will actually be teaching. Ask about holidays and overtime also.

Jade
