Please anybody, can you give me some info on traveling around Jeju island. I am an American, so I assume I have the right to do whatever I want in Korea, like drive a car, or fly a helicopter with no license. Do I need an international driver's license? How do I get one? |

You need to get a Korean license, or an international license, but a Korean one is easier. Well, it is for Canadians at least, but I imagine it is for you guys too, I think you just have to take a quick test. Renting a car in Jeju is awesome. |

Like ajgeddes said, driving in Jeju is awesome. I got back a week ago from Jeju. Drove around the whole island counter-clockwise over the course of 5 days. Just took my time and stayed in smaller seaside inns each day. Get hooked up with a license and it's all good.
Just a tip though if you're renting a car, one of the rental agencies at the airport in Jeju City told me I couldn't drive their car because my Korean Driver's License was less than a year old. My wife and I argued a bit with the guy so just returned to the airport, switched rental agencies, got a car, and I let her drive us out of the airport and around the corner and switched seats. Retarded rule considering I've been driving for 15+ years while my wife has driven for 3 yrs.
Oh well, have a good time and definitely take your car on the ferryboat over to U-do (island) on the East side of Jeju. Great little side trip. |
