Well, there's nothing quite like being completely empty I must say.

My juice fast lasted 7 days then I ate some salad and some chicken then got really drunk.

Surprisingly I feel great. I lost a total of 12 lbs which I've managed to keep off.

Speaking of "juice fasts" you just reminded me of one of the many fad diets that came and went. Has anyone here tried the famous "Hollywood 48 Hour Diet"? The concept seemed interesting, but I couldn't fathom paying almost 40 bucks for a Gatorade-size quart of the stuff.

This site looks like a good resource for anyone thinking of fasting. Haven't had time to read through it all yet ...

So I'm going to start my fast on Saturday. I think I will start with 9 days and see how it goes.

Regarding Bentonite and Senna tea.

-Can anyone tell me where they have been able to buy those here? I haven't been able to find them.

-Can someone provide a translation for those two products?

-If they are unavailable to me, does anyone know of adequate substitute products?

A Korean person here suggested that I might need a prescription to get bentonite. True?

-Maple syrup. Simply can't find it in my little town. Especially grade B. I understand that honey is a poor subsititue, but that molasses is a good subsititue. True?
If so, what would molasses be called in Korean, and do they even have that product here. I have looked in Homever and E-mart, but didn't see them.

Thanks in advance for any help someone can give me.

This fasting stuff is pretty cool.
I'm lightheaded and spacy, with a permanent little smile drawing up the corners of my mouth. It's almost like....you know... I've also been having olfactory hallucinations since last night. Perhaps the sweetest thing I smelled in months was that fresh wholewheat toast yesterday evening. That was followed by a beef hamburger, then fajitas, and then a western breakfast of bacon, eggs, homefries and toast. Right now I can smell roast lamb over olive wood. Slept from 8:30 to 10pm yesterday, and rode around the rice paddies from about 12 to 3am.
The weekend without booze or cigarettes was surprisingly easy. It wasn't until I got here to school that the urge to smoke just reared back and punched me straight in the hippocampus. I have spent most of the morning reading BBQ recipes and fantasizing about food.
Ok, maybe my smile is not so good. A teacher just called me over to his computer and showed me a picture of Jack Nicholson with one of his evil smiles. He doesn't speak english so he just pointed at me, and then at the picture. I'd like to go outside and walk around, but thats where I go to smoke.
Gotta get a grip.

so not eating makes you really lightheaded and think about food all the time.

Does anyone have the number for CNN?

In the same vein...

Wow. Fasting is a scientific breakthrough. Who would have thought that the lack of a proper diet makes you constipated or that laxatives make your bowels move?

Anyone ever done a fast before? cleanse?

I'm not convinced it's going to be very easy. I loooooooooove food. It doesn't even have to be bad junk food (even if it is preferable).

I started this cleanse (it's actually a body/colon cleanse) today....I'm pretty hungry but I understand that tomorrow feelings of hunger subside. Experienc?E

Anyone else have any fasting/cleansing stories? I'll take pictures of my poo and post them here if y'all are interested. Laughing

This thread is up to 10 pages - I just did a seach for 'fasting' and found it.

I've recently become interested in the concept. I don't need to lose weight, but interested in the cleansing properties it has on the body. Get rid of all the many toxins accumulated throughout a lifetime.

So what all did you learn from this thread? And did you do well on the fasting?

I think I'm about done with Daves. Wading through negative BS day after day just isn't worth it.
If you want to know about my fast, PM me. I don't think I'll bother posting public anymore.

I'm looking for a good colon cleansing pill - I have a chance to do some shopping back in the states next month and I'm wondering if GNC or some other health food store might have something good. Please, if you guys know what to look for, post it here...

Thanks!

Just read this thread and am interested. I am in Korea this summer and have been really good about not drinking, but have probably consumed more red meat than I am used to and am feeling a little bloated. I've been working out more diligently than I did back at home in grad school last year so have lost about 4 kilos in a month (weight that I think was just waiting to come off).

I tried a water fast about a year ago and only lasted less than a day. I felt horrible (and I should have known I would since I'm mildly hypoglycemic) and it's also hard when one has a husband who cooks well hovering around and trying to feed you. (:

But now I'm thinking of trying a juice fast, or even this "master cleanse" (though I don't really like the idea of hanging around my potty just waiting- brings back too many memories of China and food poisoning). I will be going back to the U.S. in a few weeks (after some time in Japan, which should be mildly de-toxing in itself) and then a few weeks before grad school starts again.

I would like to try some kind of fast for 3-5 days, possibly one that can be extended longer if it's going well. What would you recommend for a first-timer? ALSO, I really would like my husband to do this with me. I am carrying a little extra weight, and he is carrying a lot. As we get older it also worries me more and more than a lot of that weight is in his middle and too close to his heart. He likes eating, though doesn't drink much- he exercises but I think he just really needs some kind of de-tox to get a some weight that's been there a long time to come off. But the problem is, he works (like you do) so he might not be able to go quite as gung-ho as me (so he doesn't get too woozy and actually still gets work done).

Whoo. Sorry for the long post. Any recommendations for a week-two week fast for the two of us? My plan is to fast and then go to both a regular doc for a complete physical (haven't done one in years) and also to go to a nutritionist (I also have bad skin that I'm hoping fasting will improve too).

I know a good source for fasting information and foods here in Seoul.

They're also the only place (other than GNC) I know to get flax. They import organic stuff from Canada. He mostly works with Oriental Medical clinics, not with the general public.

PM me and I'll give you his email address.

Make sure you drink lots of water and take vitamin and mineral pills. I would guess that after about 3 days, you body is on fat burning frenzy since that's the only energy available. And then if you are working out and getting exercise, your only burning fat instead of losing muscle. Your body will consume your muscles if dieting without exercise.

I am considering a severely reduced calorie diet too as the beer and fried food at night has packed on pounds or kilos on my mid section. I just love that beer and food after work too much.
