Well, it was delicious, of course. The only wise thing I've ever done in my life is marry a woman wiser than than I am myself ... yeah, you're better off eating soup.

not to be a pain or anything.. but why are you using she instead of her?

ps. the only thing worse than fighting on a Korean message board, is moving back home and STILL fighting on a Korean message board Smile

It's a matter of style. It has a different ring. I rather like it. No, I'm not Bobster's sock. Yes, I should let him answer for himself. Very Happy

Bob, why do you characterize ideological opponents as stupid?

Didn't say that. Just said that some people say things that are stupid and full of hate, and the rest of us are falling down on the job if we don't point to it and say, "That's stupid and hateful." There's a double handful of people around here I consider worthy adversaries. I learn from them, and later I'm grateful for the exchange.

Then, of course, there are the other kind ...

But, you knew that already, didn't you? Because I already said it, and you know how to read. Right?

Bob c'mon...when you fictionalize a conversation you can say whatever you want!

Yeah, and um, you know, that's what I wanted to say that particular evening ... duh.

There's this word I'm looking for, what is it? Oh, yeah. Satire. One of the techniques is to start out talking about something supposedly Profound and Important (like politics, hate, idiocy or the the seeming inability of intelligent people to discuss intelligent topics in an intelligent way) and then you know what you do?

You switch it over to something completely mundane and commonplace, like soup.

Pablo Neruda won the Nobel Prize for Literature. He once wrote a poem about about his socks. Absolutely true. I think he woke up one day and his feet were cold, and he understood that socks are more important than socialism or art or the meaning of truth and human liberty, which were things he had spent his whole life caring deeply about.

Word in your ear : soup is good food.

DEAD KENNEDYS LYRICS

"Soup Is Good Food"

We're sorry
But you're no longer needed
Or wanted
Or even cared about here
Machines can do a better job than you
This is what you get for asking questions

The unions agree
'Sacrifices must be made'
Computers never go on strike
To save the working man you've got to put him out to pasture

Looks like we'll have to let you go
Doesn't it feel fulfilling to know
That you-the human being-are now obsolete
And there's nothing in hell we'll let you do about it

[Chorus]
Soup is good food-(We don't need you any more)
You made a good meal-(We don't need you any more)
Now how do you feel-(We don't need you any more)
To be sh-it out our ass
And thrown in the cold like a piece of trash
We're sorry
You'll just have to leave
Unemployment runs out after just six weeks
How does it feel to be a budget cut?
You're snipped
You no longer exist

Your number's been purged from our central computer
So we can rig the facts
And sweep you under the rug
See our chart? Unemployment's going down
If that ruins your life that's your problem

Soup is Good Food, Etc.
We're sorry
We hate to interrupt
But it's against the law to jump off this bridge
You'll just have to kill yourself somewhere else
A tourist might see you
And we wouldn't want that

I'm just doing my job, you know
So say uncle
And we'll take you to the mental health zoo
Force feed you mind-melting chemicals
Til even the outside world looks great

In hi-tech science research labs
It costs too much to bury all the dead
The mutilated disease-injected
Surplus rats who can't be used anymore

So they're dumped (with no minister present)
In a spiraling corkscrew dispose-all unit
Ground into sludge and flushed away
Aw geez:.

Soup is good food
You made a good meal, etc:.
We know how much you'd like to die
We joke about it on our coffee breaks
But we're paid to force you to have a nice day
In the wonderful world we made just for you
"Poor Rats", we human rodents chuckle
At least we get a dignified cremation
At yet
At 6:00 tomorrow morning
It's time to get up and go to work

I met Jello Biafra once (lead singer of the Dead Kennedys) at a Buzzcocks conceert while he was running for mayor of San Francisco. He got a surprising 17% of the vote ... seemed like sort of an ass hole, as I recall, though we only talked for a few minutes..

Maybe you need to be at least 34% more of an ass hole to get elected ...

Soup is fantastic. Chicken/vegetable soup with spuds in their skins is the business. My mom is the soup maestro in this regard. Skills she passed on to myself although diluted somewhat.

I still think the original post could be improved by robots or something. Obviously satire like soup is a matter of taste. Throw in your wife screaming "I'm in business, Education and politics, b*tch!" at the end and it improves it no end.

Heck everything is better with robots. I also like exploding helicopters and the odd machine gun. Sorry, just couldn't think of a way to work that stuff in with the soup part. If I could, I'd be in Hollywood, writing scripts for Tarantino and makng the REALLY big bucks ...

Cool

YOU (while capping some thugs with an Uzi): Look, if someone says something stupid, hateful, or just WRONG, how is the world better if I ignore it? I need to smash them with my giant robot, damn it!

HER : Not your job to make the world better.

YOU : WHOSE job IS it, then?

HER : It's Samuel L. Jackson's job. And maybe Bruce Willis's job. He kills people with TVs. They are STILL going to keep being wrong and stupid and hateful no matter what you tell them, so just let the professional badasses handle it.

YOU : So I shouldn't try?

HER : Have some of this miyeok-guk I made. I think it might be more healthy for you.

*Helicopter swoops in, drops off Samuel L., who takes Uzi off of the Bobster while he sits down to have some miyeok-guk. Thugs hop in helicopter and force pilot to take off. Jackson pulls out a detonation trigger and explodifies helicopter, then makes out with some random hot-ass ho and then slaps her across the street for having bad breath.

JACKSON : Trick ho, what be wit' dat foul-ass breath o' yos? Damn, woman!

*Jackson gets in Bobster's robot and flies into space to kill shit*

*Rabbit eats a grenade and explodes*

*fade out*

You said this:

Gotta stop getting angry at idiots and bigots, though. Needlessly stressful, and doesn't do a thing to make them stop being stupid and spreading hate.

There is a tendency among many who argue things on the Internet (and on TV, for that matter) to demonize their opponents. Honestly, I rarely read any of your posts, so I don't know if that's what you do or not. It just seemed from this remark that you were of that position. Glad to hear you aren't.

But I am very confused why you are being so testy with me. You get into a lot of arguments online, right? Your OP is sort of an admission that it's a time sink. Perhaps you could try making less prickified responses to people who question you (see your response to me above). I followed this same advice when I got tired of people always wanting to argue with me about things. Have saved time and sanity for it.

I think Prickification plays an important role in these forums.
If one wishes to prickificate upon the masses let them.
Please do not confuse my prickification with the prickocity of my opponents.

Dammit, zyz, why aren't in YOU hollywood writing scripts for Tarantino and making the REALLY big bucks? I'm on the carpet laughing, and I don't even HAVE a carpet, it's Korea, no one does ... Christ, nothing funnier than an exploding rabbit.

Yeah, I get what you're saying. Maybe I oughta leave saving the world to action heroes, eh? Still, there IS that one guy, ONE guy, and I changed his mind about the war. I'm gonna take that and run with it.

All my friends, including zyz up there, are people I often disagree with. Nothing more boring than having dinner with a bunch of people saying "Oh, yes. SO true." (Actually, zyzyfer and I had an argument about that a while ago over dinner. I think he said people should try to agree. My contention is that the fact that we didn't agree but were still great friends and having an interesting dinner just proves I'm right. Wink Can't remember what he said in reply, think maybe he just fell over and started to upchuck because, truth be told, he really doesn't handle soju all that well.)

I confided this by pm to a friend recently and asked the person to keep it secret. Can you keep a secret, too? Okey, here it is : I actually learn more from my enemies than I do from my firends. I like to learn things, you know. Don't get me wrong, my friends are the absolute best. They truly DO rock, and I know everybody says that about their friends - but my enemies? They not only rock, but they also roll.

Yeah, I admit I don't know exactly what I mean by that, but actually, I'm still working on this "prickified" thing. Once I suss out what you meant by that, I'll go back and figure out what I just said ...

Cool

Well, you're all right in my book, Bobby. It's good to argue for growth rather than plain rabidity, as is usually the case.

Tell ya what--next time I see you, I'll let you hold my butterfly man-purse for a bit and even claim it's yours if anyone asks.
