Yes to the latter...
Why? Do you need help with your homework or a backyard lab set-up? |

My school is looking for someone who can teach both, preferably with a license. The job was posted on Dave's July 4th and we've received almost no replies... I guess people are under contract and that's hard to break.

I read that ad today and breezed right on by it. Here's short list of reasons:
- in what currency is the salary paid?
- what are the working days/hours?
- required time to be at the school vs # of teaching hours?
- class size?
- what is the vacation time? When? Is it paid?
- When students are on vacation will you be required to do camps or have 'face time' picking your nose at an empty school?
- overtime - is it required/optional/ or n/a ? rate?
- pension?
- severance?
- house in Korea sounds fantastic, but I think not. One room cell - more likely.
- accommodations shared/non-shared?
- accommodations furnished?
- is there a set curriculum or do you have to develop it completely?
- co-teachers?
- etc. |

They want a real, licenced science teacher for 30 mil a month. Wow. They'll get few bites with that. |

30 mil wouldn't be bad. but yes, the vacation schedule would be important too because they will have to compete with international schools that generally offer higher pay and a semester system. some schools in korea have huge vacations, but many are like korean schools or some sort of hybrid. anyway, it's just a matter of convincing someone that s/he should go to jeonju rather than dubai or budapest for example. |

The school operates like any US school. There are 7 classes a day (you teach a max of 5) and you are there the whole day, 8AM-4PM. Salary is paid in either US dollars or KW (either USD3500 or 3.5MKW). My apartment is in a brand new building and is quite nice. They did provide a TV, bed, desk, fridge, stove, microwave and chair but the rest was up to me. The catch... You're only paid for 10 months and no, there's no severence. You get 6 weeks vacation in the summer and winter. As it's an upstart school, you are required to develop your own curriculum and that's why they want experienced teachers. It's a sweet job. One of our teachers has been in Korean for 6 years and he says this is the best job he's ever had here. But I am not a recruiter. I just work there. I was just curious as to why there hasn't been more takers. Oh, the school has less than 50 students (just 40 last semester) and we have 8 teachers and a principal. My largest class had 11 students and my smallest, 2. |

Like I said, I am not a recruiter so I don't have all the answers. The school is run by Jeonju University and whatever we need they deliver. As far as I know, the science department has access to the uni's labs. |
