I am not sure what type of horseradish sauce you are referring to.

There is a very strong horseradish paste in a tube similar to the wasabi paste. It is labeled horseradish on the box, but not on the tube, if I recall correctly, so you may want to label the tube if you buy both, as I did, since you don't really want to taste test horseradish vs. wasabi everytime. Frankly, I'm not sure I can taste the difference; maybe there isn't any, they are both green.

I suspect what you are looking for is the classic mayo and horseradish sauce, the stuff I loved to put on steaks, back when I could buy affordable steaks.

This is readily available in the Lotte here. It is labeled Gloria's Finest, and is next to Gloria's Finest horseradish mustard in the condiments aisle, which doesn't really taste like horseradish, but is a rather nice brown spicy mustard.

There is also powdered horseradish. With a little creativity, or a recipe, you should be able to make your own horseradish sauce. Good luck!

While I like EMart, I must say Lotte is starting to kick their aisles. They now have a 1 kg bag of delicious roast almonds for 11,800 w and a 700 g bag of raw walnuts for 8,980 w, both for about 10,000 won, and 1 kg of raisins for about 4,580 won.

That's more like it!

Now if only they would come up with some buckwheat groats for less than 200,000 won a kilo, or whatever ridiculous price they are charging.
------------

Korea, land of really kinky tube popsicles.

The imported food aisle of Homever also has it.

When I say Horseradish sauce, I'm talking about the white stuff that you use when you make c0cktail sauce...you know, you mix it with ketchup and voila.

and what/where is this Homever store?

In Bundang, the Homever is at Ori station. Also, since you're in bundang, do you know the I Love cookie store? It's a tiny shop but has almost any western product you could want. It's in Jeongja dong, just off the street that has all the restaurants and cafes, right around the corner from the Subway sandwich shop.

I don't think what you are describing would commonly be referred to as "horseradish sauce." What I was describing, which is made with mostly mayonaisse, would.

What you are looking for is essentially shredded horseradish in a bit of vinegar and lemon juice, if I recall the ingredients correctly. If you found some horseradish root, you could make it yourself with a shredder. I'm not sure whether I have seen this or not.

hmm, maybe i've been decieved this whole time into thinking it was horseradish sauce! what you described (shredded bits and it being white) is what i'm looking for, but i've always heard it called horseradish sauce, not mayoniasse. maybe just a different lexicon from where i'm from. either that or i'm a moron.

after a moment of research...

in the UK, it is mixed with mayonaisse (are you european?), however in North America it is not. (thank you wikipedia).

here is the stuff i'm referring to. "horseradish sauce" just like the bottle says. even though it looks like mayo, it's nowhere to be found in the ingredients.

Ingredients: Water, Soybean Oil, Sugar, Vinegar, Egg Yolks, Starch, Contains Less Than 2% of Salt, Modified Food Starch, Natural Flavor, Horseradish (Dried), Spice, Guar Gum, Paprika, Hydrolyzed Corn Gluten, Garlic (Dried), Onions (Dried), Artificial Flavor, Oleoresin Paprika.

Hey, that's a pretty good idea, looking up product ingredients on Amazon! After awhile, you forget what's on the label back home.

Anyway, here's the ingredients for Hellman's mayonnaise, courtesy of Amazon:

"Soybean Oil, Water, Whole Eggs And Egg Yolks, Vinegar, Salt, Sugar, Lemon Juice, Natural Flavors, Calcium Disodium EDTA (Used To Protect Quality)."

http://www.amazon.com/Hellmanns-Mayonnaise-64-fl-oz/dp/B0005ZHJNQ/ref=pd_bbs_2/102-2211140-9955317?ie=UTF8&s=gourmet-food&qid=1184489890&sr=8-2

Look familiar?

They aren't going to say "mayonnaise" on the label cause then you might just go out and make it yourself, instead of buying it from them at a 1,000 percent markup. They do pretty much the same thing with tartar sauce, which is mayonnaise and dill pickle relish.

On the other hand, if you add more sugar, you end up with Miracle Whip, though I can't prove that, as Amazon doesn't list the ingredients on this classic.

I'm not trying to bust your chops, but to make sure you realize that if you mix what you have pictured with catsup, you are going to wind up with something resembling Russian dressing, not cocktail sauce.

What I think you would want to make cocktail sauce is called "prepared horseradish," as in Gold's White Prepared Horseradish:

http://www.amazon.com/Golds-White-Prepared-Horseradish-Refrigerated/dp/B00032DF5M/ref=pd_bbs_sr_6/102-2211140-9955317?ie=UTF8&s=gourmet-food&qid=1184490307&sr=8-6

What's inside? "Grated Horseradish, Vinegar And Salt"

Here's a produce listing for seafood cocktail sauce:

http://www.amazon.com/Barefoot-Contessa-Pantry-Seafood-Cocktail/dp/B000JJLGQY/ref=sr_1_24/102-2211140-9955317?ie=UTF8&s=gourmet-food&qid=1184490449&sr=1-24

And here are the ingredients:
Ketchup, Chili Sauce, Horseradish, Worcestershire Sauce, peppersauce, lemon juice.

Sounds like it has a nice kick! Nice photo, too. Wish I could order some with free shipping.

You know, if you want to make Korean cocktail sauce, you could just put some wasabi paste in catsup, and call it cocktail sauce.

On the other hand, wouldn't it be easier to just go out and buy a bottle of cocktail sauce?

Horseradish sauce, the UK kind, is available at Hannam Supermarket in Seoul.

The one in a green box is NOT horseradish as we know it. It's Japanese wasabi.
