Lets sort the men from the boys.
A typical week.
Monday - alcohol free day
Tuesday - Couple of glasses of wine with dinner, couple of beers after
Weds - Couple of glasses of wine with or after dinner.
Thurs - ditto
Fri - Glass or two of wine, 3-4 beers down the pub
Sat - 7, 8 beers. More if United are playing on the box or special occasion
Sun - Half a bottle of wine with dinner, a couple of vodka/cokes to put me to bed.
How many pints, shots, spirits do you drink a week? |

Well, tonight is not really typical due to tomorrow being a day off. Been drinking a couple of cocktails with my lady downtown. Have just cracked the first of 3 cans of Guininess purchased from Family Mart. Not drunk but happy! |

Monday: 5 cans of really crappy beer
Tuesday: 4 flaming Dr. Peppers
3/4 shot amaretto almond liqueur
1/4 oz 151 proof rum
1/2 glass beer
1. Fill a shot glass about 3/4 full with amaretto and top it off with enough 151 proof rum to be able to burn.
2. Place the shot glass in another glass and fill the outer glass with beer (right up to the level of the shot glass).
3. Ignite the amaretto/151 and let it burn for a while. Blow it out (or leave it burning if you're brave - not recommended) and slam it. Tastes just like Dr. Pepper.
Weds: 5 body shots off a prostitute + 1 rum & coke
Thurs: day off
Fri: 100 club {100 shots of beer - one every minute}
Sat: Long Island Iced Tea {4}
Sun: day off |

Oh let's see, it varies a bit but I'll give this a go:
Mon- 0-6 drinks
Tues- 0-6 drinks
Wed- 0-6 drinks
Thurs- 0-12 drinks
Friday- 8-16 drinks
Saturday- 10-25 drinks
Sunday- 0-4 drinks
I regularly switch drinks bewteen beer and various mixed drinks, so I just measured it in drinks instead of labeling the type of alcohol. |

I might have the equivalent to a shot glass of soju's worth of intoxication per week. Not really anything to write home about, I only drink when alcohol is placed in front of me. Other than that its all about the Coca-Cola.
Yup, apparently there are other things to do in Korea aside from being an alcoholic. |

I usually have . . .
1 bottle of wine (sweet - not dry) that I drink over the course of 2 days.
Maybe one bottle of beer to go with my weekly serving of bone soup. If I go to a bar, I usually have a few beers or a couple of white Russians.
That's about it, really. |

It's easier to count the number of drinks per month, than per week. I just don't indulge that much anymore. Unless there's a birthday or a bbq during the month, I won't drink more than 3-4. |

Dang. So maybe I am an alcoholic.
I've more or less given up on the weekday drinking, but if I'm having a particularly hellish day, it's usually a pitcher after work.
Weekends, though...
Thursday (technically a weekday, but I'm still in college-mentality, where Thursdays are the big night to go out...): ends up equaling about a 3000cc of beer, which also lends itself to a few whiskeys if it's a poker night.
Friday: Usually starts out slow, with me pretending like I'm not going to drink much. About sharing a few pitchers of Cass and a couple of bottles of soju with my co-worker(s) I either switch over to some whiskey, or go home.
Saturday: This is the big night, where I generally go into Seoul and drink beyond being able/wanting to count. I think it's usually the equivalent of about 15 drinks, but who knows?
This kind of carries into Sunday, since I now spend the night downtown... started drinking on Sunday afternoons for awhile there, but felt it was starting to affect my ability not to kill myself on Mondays, so I've chilled out.
Honestly, before moving here last winter, I thought I was past this point in my life. It doesn't help that I am fully functional at these levels of drinking, so I have a hard time getting the incentive not to continue. Ah well... |

I only drank about once a year at home, but here it's about 1 or 2 nights a week for me these days. I mix about 500 ml of Gin with orange juice to get sideways in a matter of 3 hours at home. Since I don't like the beer and soju and I don't like be away from my pad drunk spending allot at a bar, I do all my drinking at home. I am slowing down the week night drinks more and more though, because of the unpleasant hang over effect making the next day at work a long one. In my first few months, I drank Korean beer 3 or 4 nights a week in a PC bang and won't be picking that habit back up anytime soon.
When I was in Germany 10 years ago while in the service during my 20s, I drank German beer 4 or 5 nights a week with no hangovers with the guys in the local welcome inn or a base bowling alley and had a real fun time, but I stopped once I flew back home to be a civilian. I think overseas travel does increase one's desire to drink for whatever reasons I don't quite understand.
Of course a trip to SEA for a happy pizza would be beat any alcohol anyday. |
