2 years ago when I went my first Korean baseball game, I rooted for Doosan because my friend was rooting for LG. Then I had a student who worked at Doosan and could always swing nearly-free tickets. So I'm a fan. But they've been bad the last few years -- which makes this season sweet. And here's why:

Rios has pitched 19 games this season with 13 wins and 3 losses, recording a 1.60 ERA. Hes thrown 4 complete games, 3 of them shutouts. Hes already surpassed last years win total of 12.
In the wins column he tops SKs Kenny Raybourn for the league lead by 2. If he records 7 wins in the 46 games remaining in the second half he will be the first 20-win pitcher since Jeong Min-tae won 20 for Hyundai in 1999.
He has no competition whatsoever in the ERA race, leading second-place Ryu Hyeon-jin of Hanhwa (2.67) by over one full run. Hes second in strikeouts with 89 to Ryus 110. So far hes tossed 140.2 frames, eating up the most innings of any pitcher among the 8 teams in the league. It seems hell throw 200 innings for the fourth straight season. And hes done it all without even a tiny injury. |

| Yep, they have been having a great season, a large part of that because of Rios. But they really haven't been that bad in the past few years. Last year wasn't the greatest, I think they finished 5th, but 2 years ago they finished in 2nd place. That was a big sweep over SK last weekend. |
