To those of you who have been through the process or are currently in the process of getting a US immigrant visa for your spouse:

How long did it take you to get an appointment to file the I-130 petiton?
I requested an appointment to file two weeks ago and have yet to hear a reply giving me an appointment date.

How long did it take you to get from filing the petition to getting a visa interview?

Thanks for any info/experience you can offer.

It usually takes at least a week or two longer than what they say for your appointment. If you haven't recieved it by the promised date though, call them. If you are or were military in the past that is a bonus. When I had problems (which they will give you) I explained to the consulate general that I hadn't defended my country for ten years just to go through hoops. That got responses, and one foul talking woman fired. so just keep calling them and keep them on their toes and it should be quick and painless.

I was going to ask somewhat similar question. It's so damn complicated to me that I won't even bother spelling it all out...

I am just wondering if the 2 week response time is applicable to all applicants waiting for interviews?

Thanks cornholio.

Thing is...to just file the initial petition (not the visa interview) they don't give you a guideline for time. Just an "Email us here with several dates and times that you are available and we'll get back to you."

I don't know what's a reasonable time to wait with no response without getting pissy.

Anyone else know how long the wait is just to file the petition? I think I might try just showing up with the paperwork and see if they'll let us file it. Probably won't work, but stranger things have happened.
