I am trying to get a reference letter from my elementary school. I am about to finish my contract there, but the principal does not seem to want to give me one. |

Your school is not obligated to provide you with "reference letter." However, they are required by the labor standards act to provide you with a "certificate of employment."
Quote: |
Article 38 (Certificate of Employment)
(1)If an employer has been requested by a worker to issue a certificate specifing term of employment, job specification, title and wages or other necessary information even after the retirement of the worker, he shall immediately prepare based upon fact and deliver the certificate.
(2)The certificate referred to in Paragraph (1) shall only contain the items that the worker concerned has requested. |

Why don't you write it yourself and then get your co-teacher to approve it and sign it?

I got my certificate of Employment today. They put the dates from 8.1.06-7.19.07, which is today. My contract ends on the 31st, but I guess this will do. |

I'm not surprised. Korean bureacracy at it's best. Little things like this would go a long way to attracting professionals to come and work in Korea, but no, this is Korea. They are going to do it their way or nothing at all. |

No, that won't do. Get it changed to the correct dates while you are still at the school, otherwise it could come back to bite you in the bum re:severance etc. |

The school told me that they would give me another one on July 31. This letter is stating that I currently work here. I am going to be living right down the street from the school until July 31 anyway. Nothing amazes me at this school, they couldn't wipe their a$$ without the principles hand. |
