I thank god Korea is messed up in the manner it's messed up. I prefer the problems Koreans give me over the problems I'm presented by dozens of other countries.
What is the opposite of being xenophobic? Being a *itch for other nations' problems? What do you get exactly? 20 millions illegal immigrants, Mosques AKA colonial outposts for Islamic domination? Refuse from others lack of humanity that you and your kind gives the pass for? What if foreigners actually do *uck?
I think xenophobia is OK. Racism over hyped as an affront to humanity. We were told that every Zimbabwean wasn't an electrical engineer or A neuroscientist due to racism. Well racism has been eliminated and the results you promised didn't materialize. Its up to you Junior to apologize now for being full of it. |

well you said that racism has been eliminated while making a load of racist comments
do you honestly think that racism has been eliminated? racism is something that has been ingrained for hundreds of years, anti racist laws are very very recent
england where i come from is still full of racists, and not just white people, and we have some ridiculously over the top anti racist laws coming in. being charged with racist crimes is akin to being charged with rape in terms of sentencing etc but racism still exists. It's even worse on the continent, and I have heard that it's worse still in America
personally i think too much importance is put on racism, class is much more important to peoples quality of life than race (white people experience racism in korea, but we can laugh it off because at the end of the day because we are still well paid and most of us live in decent houses, imagine if this racism denied us jobs and accomodation...) |

Good point junior. It looks like I was inconsistant. Its your position that I should encourage dung throwing since thats one manifestation of xenophobia. I reacted to the part where we as trading partners agreed to fair mutual trade. That would be fair trade with US farmers who recieve massive federal and state subsidies.
To be honest, that episode stradles xenophobia and monopolistic protection. A Korean consumer not buying foreign beef is an example of xenophobia. A soon to be out of work farmer throwing dung on a rivals beef has strong economic protection action aspect to it.
The Koreans lose a point on the Xenophobe scale system when they actually engage in exporting. |

Farmer, I don't have much a problem with what goes on in the continent. The Euro's get ripped off alot, I can see why they get angry. They get a raw deal. If the Africans and Arabs want something good, they need to give something good in return. They don't do that. This view has a fairness to it. I don't have a problem with it. Multiculturalism is more like "The Talented Mr. Ripley" rather than the National Geographic special its made out to be.
Racism in The US? We like to talk about history rather than the present. The face of race violence hasn't been White in well over a decade. Its all about beating, robbing, sodomizing and murdering White people and not just by a little bit. Its big and its consistant. Is that arrangement OK with you?
The biggest employer in the US is the US Fed Gov't. The Fed gov't is 17% African American while the African American population as a whole is 13%. Thats a whacked message.
No, we are never gonna end racism and its about the sex attraction. Next to that, telling people to abandon all family ties and heritage is unethical when seeking to "end" racism. Generally its the poor that choose rich places to demand inclusion. No one creally cares about
racsim. They need to mix it in with wealth distribution. |

the Europeans get ripped off? europeans won't do manual labour jobs anymore so we imprt people from outside of europe to do them, and then we make it hard for them to get work permitsso we can underpay them even more
i disagree with the multicultural model myself, it encourages differences, I'm assuming you are american, so you may not be familiar with a town in england called bradford. Bradford is about 50/50 whites and Arabs, but because of multiculturalism, the white kids and arab kids don't go to school together (cos muslims need their own school ) which causes more racism than even making muslim kids sing christian hymns would imo
Like i said i don't know much about the USA, but your statistic about the federal government isn't as disproportionate as the percentage of blacks in prison or on death row, you may say that is the blacks fault, but i would say that it was the police/judges fault
I agree with your last sentence, i think that everyone with a brain can see that the link between poverty and social problems is a lot more prevalent than the link between race and social problems. in england we had this thing with chavs, in america i think it's rednecks, but most of the racist shit applies to 'po' white trash' as much as blacks and arabs |

I started a thread a few months back about interracial relationships. Tony_Balony came out against miscegenation. The thread was deleted by the moderators shortly there after. |

Well, being from Yorkshire myself, that's big news to me. When did Bradford become known for its Arabs? I didn't realise Arabs came from the subcontinent... |

I think balonys main point is that the US has lost out by being the tolerant, fair, liberal multicultural place it is, because lesser countries around the world have not reciprocated enough, and its time to toughen up.
I see that. I also think that the US as world leader and as a relatively new country not shackled to the inequalities and prejudices of traditional societies, the US has done a huge amount of good in the world by spreading its ideals to other nations. Thats something to be proud of. America has also been enriched by the cultural melting pot as well as benefitted from immigrants.
As far as korea goes, I really think its time the US-korean trade/ defence relationship was totally re-assessed. Korea has had things their own way for far too long. |

Despite our persistent shortcomings, we are an experiment in democracy unlike any other in history--the sheer scope of the attempt to embrace diversity is astounding to all but the cynics and socialists on this board.
That said, what we are witnessing in the world--even in the U.S., but on a much smaller scale--is the growing conflict between globalization and tribalism, as Benjamin Barber to astutely framed in his landmark book, Jihad vs. McWorld in 1996. |

How can anyone argue in favor of racism and xenophobia?
Does the OP mean the relative advantages/disadvantages of homogeneous society versus a multicultural/multi ethnic one? That may be something to discuss.....
