I've just been told that I have to attend a teaching teacher's programme from 10th to 14th September. I work in Gyeonggi province - has anyone else been told about this or know anything about it?? The only information my co-teacher has (apparently) is the date......

Help please!

Well, I want you to go and teach the K-teachers some manners. Most of them are bunch of A-holes.

Get a bamboo stick and punish them just like Korean students.

No, actually it's a great day. Today is the last day before summer vacation. Well, I have 2 weeks of summer camp and 4weeks of vacation so I can't complain. Wink

Yes- I was told I have to attend this too.

That being said, I was also told that I had to attend the one they had back in May, only to be told the day before that actually it was "cancelled". Turns out it wasn't cancelled, they had just signed up too many people and I was one of the ones who got cut. So I guess this new one in September is for all the people who missed it the last time around. My co-teacher tried to get me out of it but apparently I "have" to go. I guess we'll see... hopefully they "cancel" it again at the last minute! From what I heard about the last one I don't really want to go.

ah! I didn't realise it was the general gepik orientation thingy. I was just told it was about teaching the teachers. Cheers.

Yes, my school brought over the paper to me and I told them I would be happy to teach at one but after what happened at the last one I told them I would not be involved in such a debacle.

1. Poor management by the Educational office and spouse wouldn't appreciate it if I was in a "love" hotel.

2. Some foreigners acting like drunken assmonkeys and passing out all over and berating people in public forums. Do not want to get involved in that kind of behavior nor be associated with it.

3. Korean Culture? I "gots" me Korean in-laws so I am somewhat aware of freaking Korean culture. And since I HAVE BEEN HERE IN KOREA 7 FREAKING YEARS I HAVE SOME IDEA OF THE CULTURE.

4. I can eat with chopsticks, have F2 Visa, been to immigration via car, bus and subway. I know how to use the subway and can read Hangul pretty well. I know how the bus system works. I am working on speaking better Korean.

5. I hate that the person who sets up this circus couldn't speak English if his life depended on it. I asked for his email address and was told well here it is but he doesn't speak ENGLISH. Then why in all that is holy is he organizing a workshop for English teachers.

6. Bottom line...these orientations bring out the worst of both parties. The Koreans lack of management and organization skills and foreigners (some not all) treat it like spring break and it becomes an alcohol fueled stupid contest.

My rant and I am sticking by it.

Err, sign in in the a.m., go to toilet, come back at 4 p.m.? I heard these seminars are a waste of time; never mind the sharing of a hotel room thingy. I stopped doing that way back in the early 80s, backpacking through Canada and sleeping at hostels.

(No, not Canadian).

my experience and feelings exactly......best advice..either go and complain about the above or when they tell you to go just give them the 'yeah yeah yeah' you'll always get when you need something......
