I find I work quite hard at a new school, until I get the students and expectations of the school down.

Then, after a while, things can become pretty automatic. Takes me about six months to get there though.

I try to work hard, but they don't let me. They don't want me working hard because it will make them look bad.

I work probably harder than I have to, but it all evens out in the end because my teaching hours are way down this season of classes.

I work exactly hard enough. It's an art. I think I might have mastered it.

I think I've mastered the art of doing enough. As in coming in half an hour early to work everyday in order to appear to my boss that I'm "prepping" but in reality I cruise the net or read a book. Of course, this is my third time round teaching the same books (been there a year).

For paperwork, I am the fastest one around, always on time, always well done.

I just think that I don't need to be a super-teacher but I need to be good enough that I fly under the radar and get no complaints/no one really notices me.

A lot harder before I found out that money they've been deducting for "pension" hasn't gone anywhere near a pension office.

What happened? How did you find out?
Can you get your money back by going to the Labour Board or something?

It's gotten better of late, but I used to work way to hard. Hope it lasts.

Some people work hard, and some work smart. If you work hard and smart, then you get ahead. If you just work hard, you're getting used. The golden rule of thumb is to decrease the number of hours you dedicate to work while increasing your income, or, if you're into it, keeping the same number of working hours, but increasing your income. Seems like a no-brainer, but I still know a ton of people running all over the city doing work for peanuts, or people taking on buckets of overtime for crap wages.

Couldn't agree more. People my parent's age seem to think that long hours equals a loyal employee. Like they find their worth in working that much or something. It seems like people my age (20-30s) seem to be content with working less and making enough to get by.

I am all about working efficiently.
