What do your students do during the week?

My students attend two classes: Korean and Foreign Teacher.

My Korean counterpart teaches grammar and 90% of the lesson is in Korean. Every night the students memorize five sentences and ten words. Everday there is a written test to assess the students on their words and every Friday there is a 45 minute weekly test.

On Monday and Tuesday my students study a student and activity book with me. On Wednesday we have a writing lesson that usually relates to Monday and Tuesday's lesson. We call it Journal Day and they have to hand a journal in every Friday On Thursday we play games and do speaking activties. Lastly, on Friday we have a speaking test and it usually involves talking about the journal.

With the exception of grading journals and a bimonthly report card, there is no paper work.

I'm curious to know what other schools do.

Monday - Korean teacher.
Tuesday - Friday - Foreign teacher. What ever level and books are in use at the time. Same classes all the time. Maximum 12 kids per class. Smile

Students come either 2 days (TTH) or 3 days (MWF) per week. MWF they attend for 80 minutes; TTH they come for 120 minutes.

Each day they attend, they spend 1/2 their time with a Korean teacher who teaches exclusively in English, and the other half with a foreign teacherr. Korean teachers teach phonics, grammar, and dictation (using CDs for phonics) and foreign teachers teach conversation-style classes based around our chain's core texts; sometime the FT handles reading and vocabulary.

Our older, advanced students are typically also enrolled in iBT prep classes, so they actually attend classes for close to 3 hours.

We have tests every month for the juniors, and about every 6 weeks for older students.

Kids come everyday for 50 minutes. 25 with me, 25 min with Korean teacher.

Monday and Wednesday are Let's Go books. Tuesday and Thursday are storybook days. Fridays: test with Korean teacher on vocab or sentences. Game day with whitie.

Very good setup, in my opinion. Not too monotonous for either the kids or the students but they get exposed to English everyday and so don't forget too much from lesson to lesson.

Thanks for the posts. Having returned to the same Franchise, but different location, I'm interested in what other schools are doing.

Do you have to produce a lot of Hand-Outs? Most of the teachers here dont like our writing books so we have our students write fun and interesting journals based on the Weekly Lesson. Our students can write fairly well.

We also produce a lot of hand-outs to supplement the student books. Ideally, I would to save all the papers from this year and have future students use them. That way, new teachers can spend more time facilitating the learning process, and not constantly preparing for it.

All students come to class 5 days a week, for 50 minute class periods. "Regular" classes either meet with a Korean teacher 5 times a week or with a Korean teacher 4 times a week and me once a week. I'm the only native teacher, so I don't teach every regular class.

Then there are 5 "special" classes, ranging from kindy up to middle school. The special classes are supposed to be smarter than the regular classes and are expected to do more advanced work for their age level. In addition to meeting with a Korean teacher 5 times a week, they also meet with me 3 times a week for special whitey-only education. My two littlest classes are doing Gogo Loves English, focusing mainly on reading and speaking. The classes in the middle are using Exploring English, focusing on grammar. And the oldest class is using a combination of Times for Kids, Modern Topics, and whatever I pull out of my arse, with the focus being on conversation and some writing.
