I'm going to Thailand in a couple of days and can't decide which currency would be better to take, Korean or American.

The US dollar isn't doing too well now--only about 30 baht for a buck.

The Korean won gets me 32 baht for a thousand note.

What do you think? Have you ever taken all your spending money in Korean won to Thialand? Any problems?

Check the rates for Traveler's Checks. Last year when I went I got a bunch and the rates were pretty good.

man it was 40 last summer and 37 in the winter

back to the OP, i just wired won to the states and it was 924/dollar and based on yahoo's website 924 won gets you 30 baht and 1 us dollar gets you 29.7 baht. its not much of a diference.

big thing to remember is though outside of the bangkok airport there are few places that will exchange won to baht so overall its better to get dollars

You realize $1 does not equal 1000won right? The extra dollars you get from the won will get you the extra baht you think you are losing. You are going to get the same amount of money either way pretty much.

Don't take Won. Nobody in Thailand wants Won. You'll have problems converting it. Dollars.

Just change Won to Baht here in Korea. At a bank or at the airport.

Simple.

No need to change to dollars at all.

If you have American Dollar bring it. I was in Phuket 3 weeks ago, I got 31 baht for 1000 won. I got 34 Baht for 1$ US. It's up to you to figure whether it is in your best interest to switch from Won to US to Baht. But, the US dollar will get you a higher rate in Thailand than will you get from the bank at Incheon.

Also, 50$ and 100$ notes will get you a slightly higher rater than will 20, 10 or 5$ US notes. Differences is about .75baht/dollar.

Have fun in Thailand.

NEVER bring won out of the country with you, you'll always get a horrible exchange rate.

Thanks for all the input... got American anyways.

When I was in Thailand 4 years ago I think it was almost 50 baht to the dollar. Man, things have changed.

Why? You're going to Thailand? They use Baht, not dollars.

So now you lose on the exhange rate twice. Brilliant!

There's a on/off shore rate now for Thai baht, off shore rate today is 30.05,onshore is 33.68. exchange your U.S. money in Thailand you will get the onshore rate.
