How many success stories do you know of where both knew little of the other's language in the beginning?

Any K-girl I've gone out with has always had pretty decent English skills. A buddy of mine had a very short term relationship with a very stunning k-girl who spoke very little English. His Korean was also very limited. As futile as it was, I guess they gave it a try because there was a strong attraction. Anyway, because of the language barrier, he said the first date was a total disaster until she said a very important English phrase,"we tour your apartment........O.K.?" Needless to say, communication wasn't that important for the rest of that night Laughing Laughing . I guess it was good because they went out a few more times. They gave it up, though. I mean, you have to talk eventually, right?

Yeah, ya gotta talk. The one I'm thinking of communicates well. You know that kind of person who can put things into very clear terms. I've met people whom I understand far better than others with far greater English skills.

But I'm not defining success here as getting in the sack. I'm defining success as getting to that point of being able to communicate clearly. Getting to know someone is what I'm looking for. That makes everything else better.

I mean, I know language isn't necessary to get to bed. For that I guess you can just point and grunt. I mean, don't get me wrong, grunting can be great. And pointing isn't always rude in a culture. . .

I've never seen it done... though I myself have experienced such successes. They don't last. This world is not made for it to succeed.

Total innocence is required. Then what are you gonna do? Starve to death? I guess that is an option... maybe that's better, at least for the two, but how much is the world changed by that love? I'd like to think that the event is significant... in the great scheme of things, perhaps more significant than all of human "civilization."

Did Shakespeare have an inkling when he wrote Romeo and Juliet? Does any hip modern "literary" intellectual (who engages in "dating") understand what Shakespeare was on to?
