at a few gyms i've gone to, the ajumas would gather after their 80's spandex-inspired dance classes and have coffee while sitting on the changing room floor. one place even sold ojingo by the mirrors (which made the whole place stink.) it's a strange sensation to shower and change next to someone's tea party.

as for, ahem," guarding" the cardio machine- that would be me. although i always go when it's empty anyway.

I made sure my new gym has none of that nonsense.

Of course, we have normal gym freaks, but everyone seems to be pretty cool so far. It's the best one I have found yet in Korea.

i barely see any of those behaviors at my gym.

i just get mildly irritated by some of the instructors. one woman's voice grates on my nerves so intensely that i totally can't take her classes.

#s 1-4.
I won't begin to say why because I fear my head would explode.

Not having spray disinfectant and paper towels to wipe down machines is disgusting, especially at the heat levels that they keep gyms here.

I hate when people put their cell phones on the benches while they use a machine or do something else. If you absolutely need your phone while you're working out, at least have the decency to put it off to the side and not where someone else is going to have to move it in order to use a piece of equipment.

This should have been a poll option. I dunno about the disinfectants though. That's just making super germs.

But I clicked machine hoarding. Don't use up my sporadic exercise time because you tried to press 190kg more than you should have and you need ten minutes to get the feeling back. Go rest in the corner or something. That's what I do

People doing floor exercises in high traffic parts of the gym.

So often I see people here dropping blue foam mats (to do sit ups) right in the middle of walkways in the gym as opposed to next to the wall where people don't walk.

Same goes for dudes doing barbell exercises like lunges. Man! Please consider other people in the gym who need to walk past you. Very Happy

I go to a pretty small gym and there's a decent regular crowd. But I have to fight the urge to barf every time somebody hawks a throat load in the showers -especially when it has dried on the tile by the time I get there.

Does anyone else have seats/benches in their gym locker room? I wince when I see a guy sitting on those seats naked. I don't care for that.

Hoarding machines is the most annoying, though. Also, some of the new staff keeps giving out locker keys in sequential order. So, even there are only three guys in the gym, they will have to stand shoulder to shoulder in the locker room even though there are a hundred lockers. They used to give out the keys in a more spread out way.

Here's what i fucking hate:

I hate that you see the exact same people day in and day out but you don't really know them. Y'all know what i mean. Sure, you know how much they can bench, what their favorite brand of shampoo is, the ratio of pubic hair to beach front johnson on their hang low, but you have nothing to say to these fools when you see them outside the gym. You know them, but you don't really know them. In some ways you know them more intimately than your closest friends, buuuuut at the same time they are even stranger-er than the pizza guy who you at least chat with for 5 seconds before booting his nosy ass outta your apartment...sans tip (nice).

Basically you know them too well in all the wrong ways. Sad
