Hi,
I have a job offer for a public school in Osan City in Kyonggi-do. Does anyone have any experience in the city/school system? Advice for a first timer? Is this a good city to live in?
Thanks!! |

| It is right next to Songtan, which is the US Air Force base. |

| It's not a long trip into central Seoul - maybe 45 mins, I think. |

| If there is a bus, which I am sure there is, 45 minutes to an hour. The subway will take a little longer. |

Very true, especially about the subway trip from that location. |

I'm not too far away from Osan and have a few friends living there. They're not to fond of it, actually. The pollution/stink is a little worse than most other areas, but aside from that it's a pretty generic city. If you're looking in the same area, I'd recommend Suwon over Osan any day; much more going on there.
Edit (additionally)
The subway ride from Osan Station to Hongdae is maybe an hour and a half. The Osan Bus Terminal is right next to the train station, and you can easily get a bus to either the Express Bus Terminal or Nambu Bus Terminal, so getting to Gangnam or Itaewon is a bit faster. |

I worked at Woonam Middle School for a year and really enjoyed it. They have great staff and co-teachers there. |

"GOJULIE,"
WELL, LET'S SEE, OSAN CITY...NOT MUCH TO DO THERE...BUT IN SONGTAN?
SOMEONE MENTIONED THERE IS A U.S. AIRFORCE BASE THERE--TRUE, I USED TO TEACH IN THE BASE, REGULAR HIGH SCHOOL, NOT TO ANY KOREANS, ONLY AMERICANS AS I...SONGTAN STRIP IS A COMMUNITY OF MILITARY ENLISTEES AND MILITARY RETIREES--THE BASE IS HUGE, BUT YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO GET IN--YOU HAVE TO BE EITHER IN THE U.S. MILITARY OR HAVE A FAMILY MEMBER THAT CAN SPONSOR YOU IN...
MY DAD GETS ME IN, AND GOT ME THE PAST JOB TEACHING IN THE BASE--HE'S A UNITED STATES NAVY VETERAN.
IF YOU ARE CANADIAN, MIGHT HAVE PROBLEMS...WE AMERICANS DISLIKE CANADIANS ...JUST KIDDING
TRY GETTING A JOB SOMEWHERE IN SEOUL=LIGHTS, ACTION, FUN...THOUGH OSAN HAS SOME ACTION. |
