|
|
At school I got a TV hooked up to my laptop. The TV is "cloning" everything thats on my dekstop.
Whenever I play a DVD or Video file, I get sound but no picture. I see everything on the TV except for the video. It just stays black.
How can I get it to work? |

I did. Still the same problem. I see the player, my desktop, and everything. Except where the video is, its a blank screen.
On my notebook computer, I see the video playing just fine. The TV that is "cloning" my notebook computer display shows a black screen where the video should be playing. |

Sounds strange have you tried different "views" such as dual view?
what happens if you set it to horizontal view and place the player half way between screens?.
On my computer i have to right click the desktop and activate "NVkeystone" each time i play something different otherwise the video is really dark (i have a Nvidia vidcard). |

I'm trying to find information about it on the internet. Its hard to come up with the proper keywords to find related articles.
From what I've found out so far, it has something to do with the video overlay and how a video file will not play on 2 monitors at the same time.
Maybe that information is helpful to someone. |

It might be becauseyou put it on fullscreen. My computer at school is connected to this big ass touch screen tv. However, I can't set certain programs to fullscreen because the tv can't handle it. I'm no techie, so I can't really explain it any better than that....
Good luck! |

Stolen from another forum.

I had the same problem with my ATI video card too. I just got it
setup right few minutes ago. I think you can fix your problem by
go to Display Properties>Settings>Advanced ..here it should
brings up the ATI Graphic card settings, set your monitor to
primary and your TV to secondary at the Displays tab if you
haven't done that already. Next click on the Overlay tab, click
on Theater mode to enable it. Apply that, exist the Display
Properties and try your video again ...hope this will help. |
And from yet another forum:

This happens because the first video window uses video overlay to view
the clip which is the most efficient way of viewing video (the image is
drawn directly to video card ram; that is, it is not part of the
desktop). It also means it will NOT show on the clone screen or "print
screen" image captures. But there can be only one video overlay in use
at a time, so when you open another video window, it is created "the old
fashioned" way as part of the desktop. That will then be part of the
clone image stream, and will show on the clone screen.
IIRC if you reduce graphic accelaration setting enough (in display
settings) video overlays are disabled and this will not happen. A better
way in my opion however is to use the option to view video fullscreen on
the secondary device. This can be set in NVidia driver settings. You
naturally won't see the desktop while a video is playing, but why would
you want to? When video is not playing the secondary device will work as
a regular clone device (or extended desktop, which ever is in use). |

| I usually get this problem when I'm using my tv as a secondary monitor from my laptop. You connecting through your VGA port right? Check your refresh rate (hz), drop it to something like 60hz or below. Mainly, check your resoluton settings. I'm not sure what kind of tv you have, but I would try changing it while it is hooked up. Then start a video. I usually run 1280 x 768. |
