When asked about how one would tell the difference between real sirens and just a drill my korean friend said " there would probably be a lot of other noise as well."
Pretty straight forward,eh? |

Yes the sirens rang here in Pohang. It was really strange. My girlfriend and I were on the bike and an F15 flew over low and fast. In a year I have never seen one here. Then a minute later the alarms go off. I got really scared, but nobody was doing anything so I just kept driving. Then we got to a big intersection Oguri (5 ways) and the cops had all the traffic stopped and emergency vehicles of all types were screaming through. I thought that is wierd. But still pedestrians and traffic were all calm and relaxed so I relaxed. I looked back at my girlfriend and she now looked as scared as I was at first. After awhile we figured it was a drill as the police looked really calm (almost asleep) so we started making jokes about it.
Anda did you think this was it?????????????????????????????????????????? |

They go off at 2pm on the 15th or 16th of every 2nd month. There are flags along the main streets for a few days in advance to give you warning. |

this was the 4th test that I remember in the past 2 years but today was different...
usually most of the buses and cars just keep on rolling and people mill about as if nothing is happening...
but today I was driving thru Kwangmyung and there were soldiers out at all the intersections stopping everyone...getting people off the buses into the subway station, etc... and they kept the traffic stopped until the all clear at 2:15pm..
never saw that in Seoul or elsewhere... |

| Well, this reminds me of the time when i worked for a public company. Whenever the siren is on everyone had to leave his office to gather in the big conference hall and see a re-run of some news programs for a half hour. Of course we all took a nap. Sweet~ |

I happened to be outside when they went off and two fighter jets flew by. The girl I was with tried to explain what it was by putting her hands in an x over her head like she was shielding herself from something. And then we kept on walking.
I didn't seen anyone else react either. |

Yeah, we had one here today too. They happen once or twice a year here in CJ. Not that often considering we have an air force academy.
The idea that people could miss them cause for any reason is frightening- they're loud as all hell. |

| Got it in Gongju too. Thought it was a prison break alarm or something first... then realized no one else cared... so it must have been a drill of some sort. |
