The reason why the jobs are contracted out in Korea is because the government has wasted millions of dollars mismanaging their employees and their needs.
You go on dreaming.
You don't get it.
When there's no final number to answer to money is wasted, and now we are paying double the cost for civilian contractors. DLI is a waste of money.
May as well teach civilians |

Yes they do provide a salary and all the other benefits of the military, but you also have the involuntary option of having your head blown off in some third world *beep* hole until the end of your enlistment.

not dreaming...besides I didn't say anything about government being frugal or wasteful...I agree, most of the time it is wasteful...but sometimes they do things right like DLI and a few others...
did someone step on your toes and hurt you? did you have a bad experience in the military? grow up and realize that you are simply wrong...there seems to be nothing but bitterness in your "voice"...a little hatred or perhaps blinded by your prejuidices????
My gf is a doctor of psychology...perhaps a little couch time...? on the house!!! |

This was my point: your first statement about the German course being 12 months, eight hours a day, was wrong. I don't know if three months and two hours a day is significant, but what is significant is that you have second hand knowledge that isn't necessarily right and seem to be presenting yourself as an expert. If you got this wrong, what else do you have wrong.
You're entitled to your opinion, but just because you have one, and keep repeating it, doesn't mean it's correct.

I think y'all can agree on the following:
1. One will become freaking good at a language if he/she goes to DLI
2. DLI has the largest array of languages of any institute in the world
As for it being a waste of money, I really don't think anyone in this forum has enough knowledge about the program to really say. Unless one of you has specific numbers, such as # of students studying each language, how much the DLI's budget is, etc. I think it is silly for any of us to make any claims on the financial sense of such an institute. Furthermore, given our military's presence all over the world, such an institute is necessary. Perhaps it could be reformed and changed. None of us on in this forum know, that's for sure. |

Can't it be both? Got to hand it to the army. They don't f**k about. They want results and by the sound of it they get the fluent linguists they need.

It's not a good idea to flip the bill. Flipping the bill can get you into trouble just about anywhere.

Thousands of civilian jobs created to support the undermanned military which supposedly has the best schools to get the job done.
And the money spent....wow, what a waste. |

Yes! I've been dating an MP for a few weeks now... and I have to say, that he is the nearest thing to a being a total gentleman that I've ever met. He could certainly show the guys back home (home being England) a thing or two about how to treat a lady! He's one of the ones who joined the army to serve and protect, rather than to go drinking and whoring. (Although he does have this rather alarming obssession with guns and toy tanks.  ) |

To be honest, I have said bad things about GI's in the past, but I was probably having a bad day or I was drunk when I wrote it.
I have had all good experiences with GI's in Korea so far, except for one knob from Incheon, who frequents 'Goose Goose' there, he was a total bigot and he didn't belong at all.
I feel sorry for his wife. He married a Korean lady so I would have guessed he is a pretty open minded guy. But when talking to him, I found out exactly the opposite.
But anyways, GI's are fine. |
