| My Dad and I had a great relationship growing up and I always felt that I would be a disappointment to him if I tried the stuff, so I never did. I will hopefully by that kind of man to my kids and hope for the same results. As a teenager, he told me and my brothers about his trials with pot. Some of my brothers got into drugs beyond pot and some didn't, including me. So I guess you try to raise your kids the best you can and ultimately it will be on them. |

I'll give the same advice to my daughter that my parents gave to me.
"Well cosmicgirlie--you're gonna do what you want when I'm not around. There is no way to stop you from engaging in things so here's my advice to you. If you're gonna drink--don't go overboard and don't get behind the wheel and don't get in the car with another drunk and have a buddy system in place. If you're gonna smoke pot don'e go overboard--try not to do it often as you'll get the munchies and you'll gain weight sitting around doing nothing all day except sleeping. If you're going to do chemicals--know what you're taking, your dealer and don't go overboard. If at any time you think you're getting in over your head or if we think you're getting out of control we're going to step in."
With that said to me I got the whole "moderation is the key" feel. So when I started to experiment I was actually prepared and knew what to expect. Helped that my father experimented with every drug under the sun in the late 60's so I knew what side effect and buzzes I'd get--save for the E and Crystal Meth I tried during the rave scene years. I never once got out of control that I couldn't stay safe. Although my drug of choice when I partied was Cocaine. I would never do it now though--out grew it when I was I believe 21ish. The only thing I engage in now is wine drinking and beer drinking on hot summer days--prefer the bottle of wine over beer anyday.
I can give my daughter advice for the most part and I allow her to drink wine at christmas time or during family celebrations although she's not taken up the offer yet which makes me happy because I figure she'll be okay to peer pressure when it comes. She is 10 years old and the odd glass of wine with her family is not that big of a deal when you come from a family that drinks wine with their meals. Gotta love that European family household-- |
