Just curious...

I've worked with this very reputable recruiter in the past and I've been very satisfied. I was hoping to use them again and this time, I opted to go a different route after seeking their assistance because I was fortunate enough to find a much better contract than what they could offer.

I kind of thought they would be happy for me, or at the very least respect my decision if they are any kind of professional organization but instead they have come back a bit abrasively at me and very abruptly informed me that I have wasted their time.
I don't really feel as though I should apologize for my decision and I still consider them to be professional and reputable as far as recruiters go, but this reaction really has me frustrated.

As if they are the only group out there with connections! Please...

Has anyone else had a similar experience with a recruiter you really trusted?

#1. I would never trust a recruiter. Period.

#2. If they got mad at me for looking out for my own welfare, I certainly wouldn't give a rat's ass.

Au Contraire! I have had reason to get mad at one of them for being a lying snake about the job. They're only comeback at the time was to say I wasn't a good teacher. It tickled me at the time. I never noticed them or even their son or daughter in my class

One, they do the same thing when it comes to brushing people off when something else comes up. It's a business, not a match maker

Two, don't worry.

Three, there really wasn't a reason to think they would be happy about it. They just lost about 1000000 won because of it. There is not need for anger though, as that is the nature of the job.

I would reply with a pleasant email thanking them for their assistance and ask them to please contact you in June/July 2008 with future opportunities as you'll be seeking a new contract at that time. Further, business relationships should be fostered and developed and avoided when one seeks only the quick payoff, you might add that in somewhere too.

I do think they were out of line to be so terse but I did take up a good bit of their time in making my decision not to go with one of their placements.

The ironic thing is... a contributing element to my decision was the advice from my former employer in Korea who I was introduced to by none other than this recruiter.

I did send an email to say thank you and that was when I got the short response about wasting their time. After that I replied with an apology. Now I'm thinking that was a waste of my time.

It's just a shame as I've used them before and had a very successful experience. Looks as though they will no longer be available for me in the future.

I've never had a car saleman turn me away when I return to his dealership after not buying the car he spent days and weeks trying to sell me the year before.

I agree with whoever said that this is simply the nature of the business. It should be expected in this profession... I guess some are just less professional than others.
I will definitely get over this but right now it still really frustrates me that this "recruiting expert" would have the audacity to respond to me in such a way.

It is a shame. Such behaviors are highly unprofessional and it may be the nature of this business but if they expect their clients to return, they shouldn't be treating their clients that way. Had that been me I would have sent them a long email lecturing them on professionalism and how to run a business correctly. I would then end with saying they've lost any future business with me and anyone I know. Maybe they don't give a rat's arse but who cares. I had a job this recruiter found and I canceled at the last minute...and I received a very understanding email. I could have done what plenty of recruiters have done unto me by simply not replying to their emails, but hell that's just plain rude. And again with emphasis on this being a business...professionalism goes a long way. If they don't care about it then it's their loss ultimately.

The recruiter for my first job accused me of cheating him within the first 2 days of us communicating and "worned" me about that doing that again.

juat scream at them and tell them not to *beep* with you, koreans are very good at talking lots of shit then backing down when your about to put the smack down

They're not Korean. They're American... or at least one of them is. The Koreans I have dealt with have been much more professional.

I'm not exactly sure what good screaming at them would do. I don't generally lower myself to such a point.

I'm just disappointed in the response from someone I really trusted and considered to be helpful and professional in the past.

I can't even count the number of recruiters I have contacted or been contacted by who have simply wished me well and told me I am welcome to contact them in the future if need be.

This organization is fairly well known for placements in Korea.
I suppose it really doesn't matter now as I've already signed a good contract and after this year, I will have an M.A. in TESOL, and while I may not have need for a recruiter, it's always nice to know that a good one exists out there.

Footprints is a Canadian recruiting agency, not American.

I was trying to respond to an earlier post about Koreans being difficult to deal with in recruiting and make the point that the Koreans I've dealt with have been quite the opposite.

Guess I've been pretty fortunate.
