(Note, was "What doesn't go good in a waffle cone!" but I thought may as well make it a thread to collect pictures and stories of weird Korean foods you've put in your mouth. Sorry Wylies99, this isn't about your John Shin Top fantasy.)
Mmmmmm sugar waffle cone pizza!

Isn't that actually spaghetti in the cone?? Still disgusting either way.
Baskin Robbins makes yummy Waffle cone sundaes now, but they don't put strawberries on them since they are out of season, they put cherry tomatoes. Tomatoes and chocolate sauce just don't go together in my opinion! |

That potbigsu is the pure dirt. A classic example of improvised poverty/war food, right down to the classic third world staple of condensed milk. I'd love to hear the real history of it though..I imagine a desolate, bomb ravaged landscape, and some Korean mother trying to make a dessert for her kids. All she's got is some shaved ice, beans, a few jube jubes a G.I flung at her from a moving jeep, and a can of condensed milk from the Red Cross. Voila! Thank god she didn't have any Spam on hand, or that would be thrown in there too.
I love Korean food, and I think the plain old Chapsal Duk is a wonderful treat. When chilled and presented just right it is a refreshing, exotic, even sexy dessert. But that Potbingsu is culinary carnage. Like Korea itself, Potbingsu is a literal mishmash of local and western elements ending in disaster. |

According to my friend, back in Korea with her family after 8 years, patbingsoo certainly has gone through many changes. Last time she was in Korea it was pretty much just ice and pat. Her mother was telling her about the olden days when ajummas would sell it on the street. They'd start with a block of ice, shave the ice, hand mix in the pat with their dirty sweaty hands, take your money with their dirty pat oozy hands, and then make the next serving... |

I walk by this place a lot since it's opened and I noticed, not without a great deal of surprise, a general lack of customers. I mean, who wouldn't flock to the idea of a pasta in a waffle cone?
They looked kind of sad like... "where are all the customers? We were told we'd have to beat them off with a stick. We're the only joint on the street that puts pasta in a sweet waffle cone!"
I decided instead of just merely mocking it, I'd take my GF there for a romantic dinner. Last week I took her to the Westin. This week, pasta in a cone, served in a fancy surplus paper cup. The free cell phone dongle (I'm sure they got a warehouse full of them) sure is a nice touch. Those fancy bastards at the Westin don't give you a cell phone dongle!
The price points can be what is scaring people away:
Verdict? It wasn't all that bad. My GF really seemed to enjoy it. Would I go back? I just might. |

Wow, and for years now I have been joking with kids about kimchi and jjajang ice cream. With some of the concoctions here, I believe it's possible. |

Makes me think of the time I first made Parmesan couscous as part of a dinner for my girlfriend and her oh so very Korean brother. First thing he did was smother it in gochujang and mix it with rice. |

Every time I make porridge (Quakers Oats) for my girlfriend, she adds kimchi. She actually stirs it into the porridge before eating it.
The first time I was taken aback.
Now it makes me smile. |
