|
|
If you come across a job ad for a place with a military word in the title and "Intelligence", run!
The admin is turning it into a hakwon. We had 1 evening class but that changed. The admin 'graciously' cancelled Friday evening classes as of Aug. 1. On August 2nd they demanded in return for their consideration that we teach 3 nights a week, but not on Friday.
Just as entertaining: A kyopo didn't like a foreign teacher (justified) who put his feet up on a table and moved chairs around in the office. The kyopo busted the guy's nose and sent him to the hospital for 3 days. Outcome: the kyopo was ordered to pay the hospital bill--and nothing else was done.
In 6 months, 4 people have left. All the others are looking around. One was fired because he had surgery.
The hype about people staying 13 years is not true. Those people were chased out last year. The longest anyone has stayed at present is a year and a half. That person is desperately looking elsewhere. I've been there 6 months and I'm 4th in seniority and soon to be 3rd.
The school is also going to move out into the country next year. I have lived in that part of Korea. Unless you have a car, you will be isolated in a burg of a few thousand. The present location of the school is nothing to brag about.
The new 'leader' coming in was here previously. He went to the women students' dorm, ordered the women in their pj's to stand in a line and 'inspected' them. At a party, he forced each female student to kiss him on the lips before she could leave. He reportedly squeezed a boob or two of the women teachers here previously.
Be warned. |

I thought you loved it there. What happend to all your enthusiasm about the pleasure of teaching adults who really want to learn?
I'm honestly not trying to be a smart ass... but curious as to what happened. Is there a new CO? I don't understand how a military training facility could be turned into a hogwan... but then it is Korea.
Was it ever actually a military facility?... or a private 'school' contracting to the military? |

Thanks for the warning. I've seen that ad a few times and thought about applying. Guess I won't, now. |

Yeah, sorry to hear about that.
At any rate Ya-ta, you`ll be happy to hear that your old school has gone through two more foreign teachers since you left, neither of whom worked out well, and will be effectively closed down this year - merging with another school. |

I do love the students. They are ideal to work with. It's the admin that sucks--as is so often the case. |

The hilarity continues.
The school has now REHIRED the guy they fired because he had surgery. My guess is the Australian they interviewed turned down the job offer.
The rehiree agreed because he's in desperate finacial trouble and no other employer was beating down his door. I hope he isn't feeling too secure since the school obviously doesn't want him for the long term. I'm projecting he will be re-fired for his Christmas present. |
