Similar to the "Ant in my apt." thread.... my apt. is being overrun by these tiny little "fruit fly" things, or whatever they are. They seem to like the bathroom floor drain a lot, but they spill out into the living room area, too. Any ideas on how to get rid of 'em? |

Those were my nightmare last summer.
First: thorough clean up of your house. Take out your trash often and have the bin securely closed at all times.
2nd: Get rid of humidity. Use whatever aeration you like, but deny them access to water. A fan can also serve (fan death!). You might want to cover you bathroom and sink drain when you're not using them. Open toilet seats are also one of their favourites.
3: If you are so inclined, get one of these electric bug swatters. Else, a good insecticide spray will do. But 1 and 2 are musts to prevent reinfection.
Good luck. Oh btw, cockroaches come next. And you ain't seen a roach until you've see a korean roach. |

Try talking to them. I have them by my bathroom drain, too. Good company while taking pooskis.
My place is filled with bugs - I like them. I grew up in a wood-paneled room in South Africa near a veld - I used to find Black Widow spiders and scorpions near my bed all the time. Trust me, fruit flies are a blessing compared to that crap.
And you've never seen a mad bug until you've had a Parktown Prawn scraping around near your head whilst sleeping...

You've obviously never lived in Florida. |

I accidently discovered a great way to get rid of them.
We left out an open bottle of wine one night. They all flew in, but they couldn't get out. I think anything would work that is sweet (maybe OJ).
Also, try pouring a mixture of about 1 part bleach and 10 parts water down your drain. Pour agood bit down there to kill whatever they are living on.
If nothing else works, then keep your bathroom door closed. |

After the banana trap, I went with the beer trap. Just put some beer jar. Place the jars in strategic locations. Flies go in. Many times they land in the booze. Other times you see them buzzing around in the jar. Cover the top of the jar with your hand, up end the jar, drown em.
You'll still see some buzzin' around but it sure does keep them way way way down. |

I lived in Hong Kong for a while. HK roaches use Korean roaches for toothpicks. Woke up at 2 AM one night with one of them feeling my arm with its antennae. Yeah, that was a long night....
I'm not going to mention the Huntsman spiders - I still have nightmares.
But thanks for the tips. |

Paint them different colors then pretend you're having an acid trip. |

That's nothing! I sometimes get visits from these HIGHLY venemous centipedes in Thailand:
Yes they are that big and that ugly but the worst part is they move very fast and they like to go under the bed. Good thing I've missed stepping on then with my bare feet. |
