This reminds me of when farmers set up giant satellite dishes in their backyards to pick up free programming and then the companies tried to sue them for stealing. They ended up having to scramble the satellite transmissions, and thats what wireless companies should do if they care so much about it. |

The amount of times I've stolen stuff off the internet, I'm practically a dealer at this stage. |
You sell it too? |

I wish I had memories like this.
My memories are slightly more jaded.

Well, I don't remember it (a little before my time--happened in the '70s I believe), but I remember reading about it in my journalism class. |

We aren't talking about wireless companies. We are talking about individuals in houses. Most people have no clue. |

This past summer, while visiting my folks in the States, my mom received a notice from her ISP warning that they had been notified by NBC that she had illegally downloaded content that belonged to them. My 82 y.o. mother knows how to turn the computer on, do IM and Skype, along with Word--she has absolutely no idea how to use Bittorrent, etc. Nobody else who has access to her computer downloaded anything either. As there is a wireless access point attached to her computer, I can only guess that someone tapped into her connection and did the downloading. My folks' house is in the woods, back a couple hundred meters from the main road, so I'm not sure how someone picked the signal up. |

It was a good time for porn! In Windsor, right next to Detroit, we used to steal American pay TV. There was something called On TV. It was carried on normal broadcast TV but the signal was scrambled. The local TV shops in Windsor did brisk trade in building simple descrambler boxes. Eventually they moved on to pizza dishes. Windsor people all bought them and hacked decoder boxes. They switch their code ever so often then people all have to go buy new hacked cards. I guess when they switch the signal, the auto plants suddenly experience massive sick calls as everyone calls in sick and they go out and buy their new cards.
I dunno. Although I'd be in as much of tizzy if bit.torrent was some how over come. |
