They need to be quiet while they are here or just post on the internet where people can't really hear them. If they breed with other racially pure Koreans,
the offspring will be welcome because they won't disrupt the fabric of life here. |

| It means someone of Korean ancenstry who doesn't live in Korea, but it is a bit vague in some ways, especially with the number of half-Koreans currently on the planet. It's most commonly applied to Korean-Americans though there are millions of others who can go by the title. |

Alternative definition:
A 20 ~ 25 year old guy of Korean ancestry. Wears over-sized jerseys, cheap bling, sunglasses at night, and speaks in ebonics. Typically from middle-class suburbs of LA, but through his infatuation with hip-hop culture, he has convinced himself he's really from the hood. |

any korean living outside of korea, speaks English, wants to act western around koreans, but inside feels resentment towards the west. Feels mixed up, looks asian, but feels western. Many are looking for an identity. I think cho was proof of this. Many have parents who worked hard and made them try to over achieve. |

Exactly - their "parents" worked hard - (usually in the US / Canada) - to give them the best education, care and love - but the "gyopo" rejects all this at the age of 21 and returns to his/her nest - that is "Korea" - so he/she can take their anger out on Waegukins living in his/her mother-home "Korea"...
ALSO - a gyopo is "mixed-blooded" - (same as most Koreans) - who feel they can swing BOTH ways...
Gyopos are famous for applying for jobs like this -

In their resume application - they usually forget to attach a photo (because they look the same as any other Korean) - and (they hope the employer will not notice that at the interview) - and state... I am an AMERICAN... CANADIAN, BRITISH, AUSTRALIAN... etc etc etc...
and I SPEAK ONLY ENGLISH - I do not speak Korean... blah blah blah....
they come here - and apply for FOREIGN teachers jobs - and SWEAR - that they are "really" foreign...
then once they are here a couple of months - they hang out with all their "Korean mixed-blood" buddies - and TELL other REAL foreigners they meet to "get out of my country!!"... - whilst talking Korean to their friends....
basically - its swinging both ways - trying to get the best of both worlds - although whilst in the US, Canada - they swear to be American, Canadian, - but whilst here in Korea - swear to be Korean - and hate all things foreign... |

Not only speaks english, can speak french, german, whatever country they ended up in.
May feel resentment, may still love the west. Some are looking for an identity, some have found one. Cho is as much proof of that as Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold are proof that whites feel insecure about a little bullying and must shoot up everyone.
Many have hard working parents and overacheive, some don't have hardworking parents and overachieve. Like all the law of averages, not everyone finds success, some do.
But often the case that the gyopos enjoy korea, while their white male counterparts often curse Korea, complain endlessly, criticize Korea and it's people but consciously make the choice (or maybe no choice) to keep Living in Korea.
Often the bane of existence to other ESL male teachers in Korea.
Don't know why.
Maybe it's a gyopos ESL vs. white ESL thing.
In other industries, they get along fine, become great friends, etc. The ability to communicate in english only helps the relationship.
Must be just an Internet ESL thing.
Seriously, lots of bitter comments coming from both sides. They each show some jealously and resentment towards eachother.
But like i said. I only see this in ESL.

To be honest i've never met a Korean that went back to live in Korea at the age of 21. Most i know are very successful in America, lawyers, doctors, business, etc. Are very happy and live above such immature, bitter, resentment you hear on this board by people here.
Sorry if you've been on the receiving end of some angry Koreans. But to be honest with you, why would a few angry Koreans bother you anyhow?
If you look at how you deal with being a minority here, then you have no understanding of what minorities in other societies deal with.
Being that you are so bitter and other minorities handle it much better than you. Doesn't it speak to the truth that you are unable to handle any adversity in your life?
Big deal, a bunch of angry Koreans (probably from LA) are mean to you. boo hoo.
But what amazes me is, what can a Korean possibly say to you that is so offensive? |

Obviously - the look, smell and act the same as Koreans - even YOU said they were Korean... why do they keep applying for the Foreigner jobs....?

Out of every five (5) applications I get - four (4) are Gyopo 21~25 years olds... who CLAIM to be American, Canadian etc - and yet once they are here - they live in Korea with a HATRED towards foreigners.......

1. You are a recruiter, so you are expected to have some professionalism while doing your job. But obviously, you don't.
2. You probably reject qualified Koreans and hire unqualified non-Koreans because you despise Koreans.

Go ahead post everyone Korean's resume. What do i care? If it makes you feel powerful, go ahead.
Buddy, whoever you are. I'm sorry to say that you sound just as bitter as those Korean job applicants.
By the way you are talking right now, it's a clear as day.
I'm not denying there are angry Koreans, but you're in their class. it's freaking obvious! |

I reject Gyopos (applications for REAL foreigners jobs) - (This thread is NOT about Koreans).... because the parents of the students pay LARGE money for their sons/daughters to study in a classroom with REAL Foreigners - who speak REAL English - they don't want to stop by the classroom one day - and peep in - and see all their money has been wasted - when they see a Gyopo (Korean look-a-like) teaching their sons/daughters under the guise of being a REAL foreigner.... AFTER they paid for a REAL foreigner to teach their sons/daughters.... |

Ok, another thing. If a white american decided to live in Korea and gave me his picture, of course he would still look american. Why are you trying to shock us by saying these Koreans still look Korean!?!?!
I was born in Korea, came to the US at 4, lived there for 30 years and i still look Korean!!!
The point i'm making is there are angry Koreans and angry white dudes towards eachother in ESL.
It's a very fierce thing. You are a perfect example of it.
i'm not taking any sides and don't want to get into a shouting match with you. I'm just curious as to why there's no much resentment on both sides. |

hmm... most gyopos i know in korea aren't english teachers. they actually have jobs that guys can be proud of. whether in finance, law, business, science, or even the military.
most gyopo girls and guys who actually do teach english, if they stay for more than one year, they end up being managers, recruiters, or starting their own hakwons. *shrugs*
after reading dave's esl tho, i am sure many of these kyopos have a good understanding of what AWM think deep inside. |
