I'm sure the guy is funny, and the fact that he laughs at his own jokes while on stage is great. But, I can't get past the heavy accent...

I'm Canadian (surprise! surprise!). I don't typically have trouble w/ accents, but don't you think that guy's accent is unusually strong?? It might just be that he laughs and talks at the same time, or the laughter from the audience muffles his words a bit...

He's from the North of England. I can understand him perfectly, being from Yorkshire, but I can understand that others would struggle with it.

He was very sucessful in the 70s. It would have been very funny back in its day. Humour dates, and even Monty Python are not so funny anymore.

I can see why people thought he was funny, I think he's a bit annoying. He just keeps shooting out these cheap one liners and laughing at yourself is a bit odd. It reminds me of a time I did stand up comedy and clapped myself at the end.

All the same, it makes me kind of glad that America is a major economic power in Korea and not England...I'd hate to have to teach the Koreans in that lousy accent.

You are comparing Goodwin to Python? I'm 23 and I love monty python and fawlty towers. So maybe it hasn't aged too much.

Of course there is some stuff I like now that will show its age in 20 years but the really good stuff is built to last.

I don't recall comparing anyone to anyone.

This is a sweeping statement that you haven't thought too much about. Some comedy, that is brilliant and extremely funny today, will not be funny in a couple of years, simply because the background on which the jokes have been built.

And really good stuff does date. Chaplin was brilliantly funny in his time. I appreciate that. But I do not find him as funny as I would had I lived in 1925.

That was 1925 and silent. I think that goes over the bounds of a couple of years. Even watching Chaplin I can understand that it is funny.

I never said that Goodwin was dated or hasn't aged well, I'm saying that he was never funny to begin with. Same as if I look back at a Ben Elton stand up gig from the 80s I won't be saying "wow he has really dated", I'll be saying "wow he was really crap".

He tells jokes that your dad might tell but with worse timing, then he laughs like an eejit at the end. I don't think this is a question of aging.

I agree to an extent and I was being too sweeping with my original statement. I stil think stuff that is funny remains funny. Maybe not as much.

Actually I'm putting down my Dad a bit, my dad never told such formulaic jokes and doesn't have a crappy catchphrase. He does tell the same damn joke about some police check point in the seventies that is vaguely racist. Other than that hes ok.
