I had an interview with the director of St. Andrew's Hagwon on Friday. He told me his name was Mr. Lee but heard another teacher refer to him as Mr. Kim. That didn't bother me. He asked to see my diploma and passport. I handed him a photocopy of my passport. Mr. Kim asked me, "Why don't you trust me?" I said, "Would you give your passport to me?" At this point his wife came into the office. They began speaking Korean at a very rapid pace. I could tell Mr. Kim was angry. The interview proceeded. He wanted to look at my diploma. I handed it him. Mr. Kim looked at me and said, "This is really nice." I told him I appreciated his kind remarks. Furthermore, I commented on the diplomas I saw earlier. There were three diplomas in nice frames hanging in the hallway that I remembered. They were issued from the University of Minnesota, University of Alberta and one University in England. I asked him, "Are the diplomas hanging on the wall fake diplomas?" Mr. Kim became extremely angry. It was apparent that several teachers have worked there without real diplomas and most likely without a visa. He started talking to the other two Korean teachers and the desk secretary about the urgent matter. They all agreed that security should remove me from the building.

Is this the infamous one in Ilsan? Perhaps we should all try to interview there, just for a lark.

Actually, it is true. I've been in this country a short while on the job hunt.

Is there a reason you did what you did? Or are you just
making sure your skills at stupidity and rudeness are not
getting rusty. If I was interviewing you, you would have
gotten a fat lip for your trouble.

I would really like to know how long you will keep a job if you
can ever find one.

You remind me like the Koreans who were escorting me out of the building. They were intoxicated and acting like "tough guys" like you are. They told me, "We see you here again and we will hurt you." Mr.Kim walked outside shortly thereafter and shouted at me as well.

I hate to say this, but that's a true description of the lobby area of St Andrews in Ilsan. The director has a number of phony diplomas framed and displayed in the lobby. I don't know where he got them or why he has them.

Even if true, I agree with Cohiba that it is rude to bring it up to the owner. Of course, since it is the same guy who screwed Ianinilsan, maybe it is not as bad but still something you should not do at your job interview (as a general rule).

Why are you flaming the guy? Did he say it was a serious interview?
If I lived there I'd go in for a joke too.

This was a joke right OP? If not you're very lucky.

Pak Yu Man, I went there to find a job. I was unaware of anything shady that took place at the school indicated in another forum.

I feared for my safety when Mr. Kim started yelling at me.

Give me a break, man. When the crazy Korean dude started shouting, you should've shouted back even louder.

In Korea, whoever shouts the loudest wins.
