It's much harder to do such killings in Korea. Lack of access to firearms.

Harder, yet possible. eFF'ed-up people will always find a way.

Alas. Just have to wonder how many psychopaths might be freely strolling on the streets right now.

go to your local 7-11 or GS 25 and tell me if you see a crack dealer!!?

come back here and report on what you find..
ohh also why dont you ride the subway at midnight and see if anything happens to you.. or better yet.. get out at random stations in the poor areas of town and let us know if anything happens to you or you see anything of what I mentioned...

I used to live in the borough of London with the highest crime rate (Newham) and was never a victim of crime, never saw gang bangers or crack dealers. Of course there were sensationalist stories in the newspapers about stabbings and beatings but I never saw it. In Korea I heard my neighbour's wife smash something over her husband and looked outside and the corridor was covered in blood.

It's impossible to make generalisations about the crime rate based on how safe you feel because how safe you feel is influenced by what's reported in the media and if the Korean media are not reporting a lot of crimes it gives you a false sense of security. If the western media love sensationalist crime stories then this makes people irrationally fearful of crime.

I always felt safe walking around the streets of Korea at night but I also felt safe walking around the streets of Newham. Your chances of being a victim of crime are low in any developed country.

Meh, at least the ones here are mostly harmless. Might have a few shibbals thrown at me, but they aren't tooled up. Irritating yes, dangerous, mostly not.

Any updates on the story? I hear a guy used one of the girl's credit cards to withdraw money from an ATM. There was a CCTV in the area but it only captured a shot of his back. Where was the ATM located in Seoul and what time did he use it?

*Bump* Link, guys. Link? Threads now way off in left field. Unless this is one'a those news stories that Koreans bury and won't publish in English to save face.

They caught the killer. He was a taxi driver who drove them out somewhere and had a couple of his friends following in a car. No idea how they found out, just what my wife is telling me through MSN.

Also, all this "Remember Virginia Tech" bullshart is incredibly lame.

aweful news.

stories like that can affect hong dae very badly- i agree.

is it worth mentioning my post again, in which an english teacher was kidnapped by "security" guards from m2 and beaten down an alley with weapons?

not as bad as being dumped dead in the han, but smells of the same cloth.

So are you actually daring to say that these girls first assaulted their assailants first? Because that is exactly what happened in your supposed incident.

These girls losing their lives in no where close to that goofy made up story you posted.

they are both examples of people in hong dae acting outside of the law, or breaking the law.

or street crime in hong dae

etc...
whats your problem dude? go clean the house for when your wide gets home from work or something.

My "problem" is you tryingto use the death of these girls to further your cause.

It's lame.

It's low.

You have yet to support your claims on the other thread (like a working link), and until you do so, you're going to be viewed as someeone with an agenda.

Why not keepyour egenda out of this thread?

Or better yet, YOU come over to my house and clean up.. I'll even pay ya (betterthan you are making at your hogwon too).

you should join the USA gun lobby mate.

then you could say the same thing......"you blaming guns for all these shootings"?

equally stupid.

you let gangs run clubs in hongdae, let them selves arm themselves with weapons, do nothing about all other examples of that sort of behavior being allowed to conitnue....and yes, you will more violence and crime.

they are related bcos they are both crimes against people in the same area, related to violence ...statistically they would be rolled into one.

Wow, you really are getting that victim role down-pat. How do you figure that I let gangs run Hondae?

You lied in the other thread. You claimed that you got that pst from another forum yet never produced the link. You claimed it was racism but the majority of posters sawit for what it was - you being a tool to the staff and getting your arse handed to you.

Everyone can see how many times you edited the original

Dude you felt safe walking around London at night?? In London from the age of fifteen i have been mugged several times with a knife, a gun (group of us, i think he was a crackhead) and when outnumbered. Im not even talking about the general random fights that occur out of nothing in the pubs and clubs. Granted, i hung out in Brixton but there are plenty of areas in London where your chances of getting jacked are pretty high.

True British media highlights ridiculous trends that wont affect the majority, and you're unlikely to get shot but London is in no way safe. In fact i believe it has the highest crime rate in Western Europe.

Caught them...

Link (Korean): http://cyplaza.cyworld.com/media/news/View.asp?ArticleID=2007083016450653218&PID=A0

Long and short of it...

Three guys 35, 39, and 30. They took two girls (24 and 25) from Hongdae. Raped them. Killed them. Took them to Ilsan and dumped them in the Han river.

They used a taxi to take them around while the other two followed in a rental car to the places where the crimes took place.

They also took a 27 year old victim from Gangnam out to Gyeongi-do and raped/murdered her and left her at a stadium somewhere.

They have been caught.. they confessed... planned the whole ordeal.

Sad part is that they're just going to apologize to the parents, give them some money, and be out of jail in two years.

Daegu subway fire?
I was close enough to see the smoke billowing out of the subway vents.

Then afterwards, people were allowed to visit the memorial in the burnt out station. You could still see sooty fingerprints from the victims as they tried to find their way out of the smoke.
The metal phone booths on the UPPER level of the concourse were wilted and melted. That gives a clear picture how hot it must have been at ground zero.

Absolutely horrifying.

Did it say anything about the background of these guys? Where are they from, jobs, etc.?

I don't think Korean murderers get off so easily, but I could be wrong.
