A question:

I have heard that the Universities in Korea may be getting government "points" "credits" or some sort of tax and/or cash reinbursement for hiring those with MAs, Ph.Ds or other advanced degrees over BAs.

I think most of us know that a BA in any communication arts or sciences (and related Korean experience) is worth as least as much, or more, than any MA in animal husbandry or other such silly unrealated degress but put it on the Koreans (an ascriptive society) to load far more favour onto the letter of the laws than the spirit.

Any info on this?

Not really.

But Taiwan does something similar. They allow anyone holding an M.A./M.Sc or higher to teach English in national and private universities.

So, I've met guys with M.A. degrees in e-commerce, engineering and so on who are faculty members at Taiwanese universities.

Joe Blow with a CELTA or TESOL diploma and even a teaching license or B.A. Ed can't work in a university.

Pretty stupid, isn't it.

I have a friend who was working as a mining engineer is now teaching English Literature and Conversation at a Korean university. Pretty weird, but the requirements for a "real" English professor in Korea is a PHd(in any field!)

Cheers

Yes, but the trend today at the uni level is to give preference to young, seemingly submissive women. So if you meet those standards (or are willing to go through an expensive sex-change operation), you'll be short-listed immediately.
