|
|
Morning kids,
Just wanted to ask if anyone knows what number to dial to call landlines in the UK from Korean payphones.
My recruiter has told me that you simply dial 0090 then 44 (UK code) then the number, but I've tried this but keep getting a incorrect code message.
Can anyone let me know how it's done as I need to call the UK urgently as I think I left the Iron on.
Thanks in advance. |

| Not sure about the code, but I DO know that it'll cost you a bloody fortune! Try getting a calling card (chon-hwa-cad-uh). "For you" is pretty good, 13,000won gets you almost five hours to a UK landline. |

Prior to my hanaphone days, I used 00300 AFTER 7pm for the cheapest rate around town. About 299won a minute + vat. Just dial 00300 44 1332 (in my case, I phone Derby where my mummy is)...
Now... with hanaphone, as we also use hanaro internet service, I dial 005, which costs me just 99 won a minute at all times because we signed up for their pack, which costs 1000 extra a month. I now call my mum every day or every other day and my bill per month is only like 20K!!! |

Stupid question #382: These phone cards (chon-hwa-cad-uh) where can I get one from exactly. Will I be able to pick one up in a supermarket?
Cheers. |

| Phone card would definately be the way to go, but if you have a load of change burning a hole in your pocket, there are often directions in English in the phone booth, including country codes. Just shop around until you find the right phone booth! |

If you're in Seoul, Itaewon is probably the best place to go. Many subway stations have stalls selling them too. If not, anywhere with foreigners living nearby should have somewhere stocking them. The small Gyeonggi town I used to live in had 2 shops selling them, as there were a few whiteys and south Asians living in the area. If all that fails, you should be able to purchase something online. Number and PIN will be emailed to you. (Actually, not sure about doing that if you are dialling out of Korea?) |

^ Alas, I'm deep down South.
I know where to buy onions, beer and dubious looking fish that's infringing uopn numerous (Western) publich health violations, but unfortunately, I've yet to find phonecards.
The quest continueth.

| I use 00365 44 followed by the mobile number/area code minus the 0 when calling from my cellphone. Someone told me that's the cheapest but I've no idea really. |
