While we are on the topic of lenses. I just thought I would throw a great review site into the mix. It's dedicated to Canon cameras and more specifically lenses. There are a few third party reviews thrown in there to just to make things even.

If I were you, I would get the Canon 40D. Anything above that is more than you need for your first DSLR in my opinion.

I have the Nikon D80 with the 18-200mm VR lens, which is working out perfect for me. Originally, I was going to buy the Canon 400D because of it's great reviews, but I ended up with the Nikon. When I went to the store to check it out, it was too small for my big hand. The 30D and the D80 fit my hand perfectly, but I did not like the lower megapixels and the price of the 30D. Higher the megapixel, the better for cropping. If the 40D was available back in May, then I would of bought that without question.

Also, keep in mind that a good lens is important too. Before you go out and buy the camera, find out what you will be shooting mostly and pick the right lens. I made a mistake of buying a package deal, and ended up spending more money upgrading my lens a month later.
