... the huge blocks they give you as gifts are just TOO much.

Great gesture, but really, most of it is going in the trash. Uggh.

I love the small pieces of ddok in kmchi jjigae, but I'm not very into those huge blocks either. Many times the moms bring boatloads of that stuff to my school, and the kids hardly even want them. Rolling Eyes

I actually completely agree. It's a great addition in a jiggae, or in dak galbi, or as part of a dish. It's even good in ddeok bokki. But these huge blocks.... way too much for one person, and just too much in general. What do you people do with them?

Cut them up into smaller, more manage-able sized blocks and freeze them. Then, whenever cooking, you can ask your girl/boyfriend "Hey, get me a block of ddeok." Add some to everything you cook, and you'll still have blocks of ddeok in your freezer after 11 months. You'll need a pretty big freezer though.

Hahaha that could work.... if this were plain. There are giant red beans in it though. Red beans in EVERYTHING I cook could have dangerous results.

Well the red bean might limit you a little bit, but remember that this is the country of red bean doughnuts and red bean ice cream. Keep an open mind! I'm trying to think if red bean ddeok would work as a pizza topping.... or maybe it's already been done - it wouldn't surprise me! Laughing
