If your Korean is better than a Korean's English, it would only make sense that you are compelled to speak Korean for convenience. But Koreans will continue to inconvenience the other by speaking in English even though the other person can speak Korean well. Anyway, do you feel used for English by Koreans?

That option seems to be lacking.
Seems as though someone wanted to conduct a poll, but wants to make sure the results show only one thing. We don't all feel the same way you do. |

Where's the poll option for "Never"?
As soon as my co-workers learned that I can speak some Korean they insisted on me speaking Korean to them as much as possible.
EDIT: Ah you put it in before I posted. You must have lighting-quick fingers or something.

If someone speaks better English than I speak Korean, I would speak English to them. However, if they don't, and they insist on speaking English, I just speak extremely quick and use lots of slang. Then they switch back. |

Can you re-edit for seldom/rarely? Sometimes is like 25% and that's way too high. We're talking 5-10% of the K-people I've met, maximum. |

Sorry. To late to re-edit. Once the vote is up, it's too late. |

I voted never. But thats b/c I don't let them use me for English. Although I've been approached more tiems than I can count. I hate how they pretend they want to be friends, jsut so they can practice thier bad English.
I work at a large elementary school with nearly 100 staff and faculty members. People are constantly asking me out to dinner even though they speak very little English and know my Korean is not conversatoional. I always tell them I'm busy, then they never ask again.
Of course, i've also been chatted upby random people on the subway, in emart, wherever, just so tey can practice. I usually make an excuse and walk away.
The only time I'll let them practice their English for free is when they give me a ride home! |

I don't see the problem. If they wish to speak English to you, more power to them. If your Korean is better than their English, knock yourself out and speak Korean. Who says both sides of the conversation must be in the same language? |

True enough...
that's the premise for this movie...
And it's absolutely dreadful...just like every conversation that ends up in that bizarre schizophrenic fashion.... |

I dislike language leeches, unless if they can offer me something in return. |

Hang out with people with genuinely similar interests and you won't care which language you're speaking.
Alternatively, if someone really is bothering you at an inconvenient time, fall to the ground and feign death. |
