I live in Daegu and have a chance to move to Ulsan, Pohang or Busan.
Given the choice, where would you choose to live and work.
-I don't care about nightlife / expat community
-an Emart is essential
-easy access to mountains/forest important
-a place to ride a bike, like long paths along a river
-a tough one...relatively clean |

Busan is a huge city with all western conveniences. There are many mountains and places to ride bikes.
Ulsan is a big city with 1.2 mil people it has 2 home plus, Lotte Mart, 2 Emarts. There is a great park in OK dong that has good walking tracks and bush trails. There are a few beaches in Ulsan county but not right in the city.
Pohang is the smallest of the 3 cities, I have been there a few times. It has e marts and other supermarkets. It is on the beach, but to tell you the truth I didin't really like Pohang that much.
All 3 have about the same levels of pollution. I live in Ulsan, it is good but I also think Busan is a good city. |

Pohang for the people/access to natural resources.
Ulsan for money.
Busan for night life. |

Your set of choices is probably work related. However, if anything comes up in Changwon, I would strongly recommend that city. It fits your criteria perfectly.

Chnagwon has a good balance between the conveniences you have in big city (E-Mart and other major department stores, foreign bars) while at the same time not being too big (around 600,000 people) and being by Korean standards extremely clean. You have access to mountains and nature as well. Also, Busan is only 60 min away and Daegu about 100 min.
Just be warned, Changwon has an evil twin called Masan. The two cities sit next to each other but Masan is nothing like Changwon. |

Um, well, strange list you got going there.
Ulsan has the bike path along the river, but as far as I know it's the only place in the city to ride a bike, and it ain't that long. Might be interesting for a week or two.
Only been to Pohang once, but f'in hated it.
Busan's alright. Don't know about the biking situation.
Honestly, Seoul is the best. It has, maybe 75 to 125 the amount of bike paths as Ulsan, you can stay away from foreigners if you like, though you'll still see em on the street from time to time). NW Seoul (sorry, forget the name of the area- pm me and I'll figure it out) has long bike paths, is surrounded by mountains (which are a close bus, scooter ride, or even long walk away), and could easily be anywhere in Ulsan, Pohang or Busan, but with fewer McDonalds, and with more accepting Korean people.
As somebody who lived down south for a year, I can honestly say that Seoul is superior in every...single....way. |

Party animal? No, not really. Weeellllll....sometimes.
Just that Pohang is probably one of the ugliest cities in Korea (although this is judging just from the two days I spent there). Ulsan has some pretty good nature nearby- like I said if you've got a scooter, there's tons of stuff to explore- but I can say for a fact that if you want to ride a bicycle, its not great.
Like I said, Busan, I dunno. But I do know that Seouls got a LOT of great bike paths, and a lot of places you can actually ride your bike on the street, unlike Ulsan. |

Actually, bike riding is secondary to me. I want a mountain I can run up/photograph on. I can ride along the highway, provided there is a shoulder , or on the sidewalk if I need to get someplace to shop. I do that in Daegu a lot. |
