The thread on Canadian food led me to this question.

Two vegetables I can think of: turnip and parsnip.

Oh, and rhubarb.

Certainly no moose (caribou) or seal either, though I'm sure not many people here have eaten these either. They are good. They'd probably be popular if imported in more countries.

I miss sauces more. Gravy, especially. Mint sauce and apple sauce also come to mind.

A few years ago in India I saw Brussels sprouts introduced as an 'exotic food'........

You're right. I've never eaten (or seen) either anywhere I have lived, including my home country (Australia).

Swiss Cheese, Jarlsberg, Blue Vein, Edam, Gruyere, Smoked Salmon, creamed Honey (I only saw large jars of one other variety).

You can buy things like Edam in Costco. I do miss good blue cheeses, though, although I know some are available in namdaemoon.

Gruyere is Swiss cheese.

I wasn't anywhere near a 'Costco' (I was out near Paju / Munsan). Nor could I find soft cheeses, like brie, although I could get camembert & cheddar cheese in the local supermarket.





Both Swiss, but completely different tastes.

There has to be turnips here though.

When I read 'The Enormous Turnip' or whatever that dumb story is called to some students a while back, where you have to keep repeating the same thing over and over, but just keep adding a new character (hated that Ladybird book as a kid even - and then they pulled, and pulled, and pulled! - ugh), and translated the word 'turnip' into Korean, the kids knew what I meant.

Then again, who knows - some of the things they call radishes and pumpkins here, nothing like back home...

I eat smoked salmon at least 3 times a week. Yum.

Isn't Camembert a French cheese, and Cheddar an English cheese?

you can get biltong from Phillies in Haebangcheon. A local Sth African guy makes it. Also Sth African sausage bbq on some weekends.
