There has been an upsurge in macho posturing on the board in recent weeks. Does anyone have any theories to explain it?
Did the West produce more insecure males back in the '80's?
Are the planets in a weird alignment?
Are Men In Pink really that threatening to other men's sexual identity?
What? |

If you're talking about posturing between posters, then yeah, there's been a lot of it lately.
But if you're talking about the westerners who've been complaining about random violence, then I have to say that I think that a lot of people are just tired of getting abused by random Koreans.
You've met me, you know I'm not a violent person Ya-ta....I posted a thread about 6-7 weeks ago where I was walking to work from the subway station and two drunken adjoshis decided they wanted me to stop and talk to them (6:15AM) so one of them grabbed my suit jacket like a child and started tugging on me because I was walking away and saying no thanks. He ripped the seam of my suit, one of my company security guards who saw the whole thing happen, ran up to my defense as I entered the building the drunk guy started bowing to me and apologizing. I doubt he would've done that if I wasn't 100 yards from the company and a security gaurd hadn't stopped him. |

I think the mods used to snuff it out. Now maybe they're employing a different tactic, a la Battle Royale. |

Something to do with S.A.D. probably. Especially the last couple of days, wow, serious issues rearing. Much negativity. Or maybe people have just finished their contracts, left and decided to let loose.
It 's not only students that get SAD. Maybe we should all change into our winter uniforms and join them. |

They're possibly getting steroids and testosterone pills (if there are such things) from Internet pharmacies that deliver to Korea... |

Righto - I'm guilty for some of this though I was just responding to a prat who called me an 'anonymous coward' who hinted that he would punch me in the mouth given half a chance.
I don't like people doing that to me when all you have to do is trawl back through my posts and you'll find out my name, what I look like, my age, where I was born, where I went to university, my regiment in the army and where I was stationed etc. I'm neither anonymous not a coward, I hide behind nothing.
So in the process of yesterday and looking back, I looked as bad as the idiot I was arguing with, lesson learnt. Next time it happens it will buisness will be conducted through PM. |

We all know perfectly well that talking tough on anonymous internet message boards makes you look really cool. |

I described a similar incident where a restaurant owner came to my aid as I was attacked by 5 guys exiting a cab near my apartment a few years ago.
I posted a long and truthful item on Sunday which sparked this whole thing. (The 'why are posters being so negative/why don't they leave if they hate it so much' posts you see everywhere atm.)
Anyway it basically involved 3 attacks since 2001: 2 in 2004 (a 7:1 and a 5:1) and a recent event (3:1).
I'm a big guy. 6' about 200lbs. The full-sleeve tattoos don't help my side of any story in any situation. But I'm not a 'violent person'. Thing is, as someone else described elsewhere, if I were to hurt these guys I would up the creek. I was never seriously injured--beyond a black eye, fat lip and contusion to the kidney (w/e the phuck that is...).
I suppose I just snapped on the weekend after the last incident. And it all came out in one long rant which pissed a lot of people off. I can see why people didn't buy the stories. But they happened.
I'd also like to put a positive spin on everything by saying that I was visited by a very friendly and English-speaking Korean cop today who seemed genuinely interested in hearing my side of things.
He apologized for everything that happened to me. We both agreed that this kind of thing can happen anywhere. It was a genuine conversation. I had a smoke. We shook hands.
He called me later to make a statement. I let my director deal with it. Now it's dropped.
Also I got a morphine shot and some painkillers which also made me smile.
Bottom line: these things happen everywhere. Two of the incidents I had mentioned in my post were from years ago, but came on back-to-back weekends after the ESpectrum scandal. I suppose the Sunday post seemed extraordinary to many people here because so many bizarre incidents were described, one after the other.
They all happened. But over a 6-year period.
Do these attacks happen? Yes. My outrage was mainly directed at the way such events are handled by authorities.
Especially the 'in the alley' drug test which NOBODY believed. Frankly I don't care. It happened.
But I feel satisfied, because of one Korean officer who at least had the decency to take time out of his day to at least hear me out, which has put me back into complacency mode.
There are good and bad people everywhere, and good and bad cops.
I guess when you let things build up for too long and then explode on a forum, you come across as an aSShole. So I offer my apologies to anyone I may have 'offended'.
But I assure you, nothing from that post was embelished in any way. It was deleted due to paranoia with the monitoring of these forums due to an investigation which has come to an end today. Hopefully. |

I'm way to amped up to read this thread, but my male intuition tells me that every poster here is questioning my manhood. I will kick all of your @$$es. |
