I know it's been discussed before but it still unsettles me. I, personally, know not how anyone could have come up with that slogan. It's not, nor ever will be true, as most people understand what is meant by "having soul".
On the other hand, it fits Korea perfectly since it is one of the only nations (correct me I'm wrong here) that comes up with national tourism slogans aimed at comparing itself to other Asian nations.
To my knowledge, most other Asian nations' tourist slogans are more concerned with telling people how awesome it would be for them to visit their country. But they don't imply some deep seated insecurity by suggesting primacy over other Asian nations, at least not so directly.
Think about it (granted, these are all national slogans):
"Vietnam - the hidden charm"
"Vietnam. A Destination for the New Millennium"
"Welcome to Vietnam!"
"Incredible India"
"India. Eternally Yours"
"Malaysia. Truly Asia."
"There's no place like Hong Kong"
"Hong Kong will take your breath away!"
"Philippines. More than the usual"
"Indonesia. Ultimate in Diversity."
"My Indonesia - Just a Smile Away."
"Uniquely Singapore."
"Live it up in Singapore!"
"Surprising Singapore"
"Thailand. Happiness on Earth"
"Amazing Thailand - Experience Variety"
The only exception being "Malaysia Truly Asia". But Malaysia, with its cultural, ethnic, religious mix can afford to call itself "Truly Asia". |

They are all equally lame. That is what the slogans are for. 신경끄세요. |
